Now, more than ever, self-care is essential to staying healthy and surviving this pandemic. Especially as women, we often have additional roles outside of our paying job like housekeeper, teacher, grocery shopper, and more. However it is important to remember that if we don't take care of our self first, we won't be able to show up and care for our family at 100%.
The ABCs to self-care are:
Awareness: Slow down and focus inwardly to determine how you are feeling, what your stress level is, what types of thoughts are going through your head, and whether your behaviors and actions are consistent with the person you want to be.
Balance: Seek balance in all areas of your life including work, personal and family life, rest, and leisure. You will be more productive when you’ve had opportunities to rest and relax. Becoming aware of when you are losing balance in your life gives you an opportunity to change.
Connection: Building connections and supportive relationships with your co-workers, students, friends, family, and community is one of the most powerful stress reducers.
VT Women Connect facilitated a webinar with Amy Epperley, Director of Hokie Wellness, to discuss what well-being and self-awareness look like during these unprecedented times. Amy will guide you through a few exercises to help reduce your stress as well as share a variety of resources to help you be successful during this time.
