First Youth Venture Team launch of the school year!

Congratulations go out to the Special Care for Special Needs Team, from Oakmont Regional High School.

This Team is comprised of a group of students in the ACE Transition Program at Oakmont. They are passionate about helping people to understand the hardships that families have when there are special needs children in the family, as well as educating the community about disabilities and people with disabilities. They hope to provide some financial support, help with supplies and necessities, and gather and share information about community resources for families. They will raise funds by selling plastic bracelets with their message, at their school and MWCC.

Congratulations, Team! Way to go!
We have a new Healthy Minds Initiative, brought to you with the generous funding support of the United Way of North Central MA and Reliant Foundation.

UWYV is all about helping young people to discover their inner Changemaker and make a difference in their world, but in these challenging times it is so important to make sure Changemakers learn to care for themselves first.

In this new initiative, we will bring you the best experts on youth wellbeing to help strengthen your mental health, feel better, grow friendships, and find out where to get more help.

As part of this new initiative, we partnered with Kyrah Altman, President of Let's Empower, Advocate, and Do, Inc. (LEAD), to bring students and teachers at the Parker School a workshop on Living with the Stress of COVID-19. Kyrah shared great techniques to help with the stress we all are feeling around living in this pandemic.

Coming up next month, on January 12, there will be a Mindful Cooking for Families workshop, called Leveraging Family Meals for Stress-Relief. Kyrah will help families explore the complex connection between food and mental health, teach families how to practice mindfulness through food-related activities like prepping a dinner side salad, and empower participants with strategies to incorporate mindful meals into everyday life, in order to build healthier and more sustainable relationships with food. Supplies needed/suggested: Lettuce, cutting board/knife, drainer, salad dressing, tomatoes, croutons, cucumbers, and any other salad toppings your family enjoys! Registration information to come.
What is YOUR favorite way to de-stress?
Spending time with the family
Play time with my pet
Long hot bath
Walk in nature
Trip to the beach
Reading a good book
Meditation or yoga
Talking with friends

Gear Up and UWYV present a fun Virtual Kahoot! Triva Night
MWCC's Gear Up Program along with UWYV, and led by Venturer and Gear Up member, Douglas Mata, held a fun Virtual Trivia Night using Kahoot! to ask and answer the questions. It was a great time with questions from all different categories, along with a few questions about attending college. Well done Douglas and to all involved.
Portrait of a Graduate

“School is not going to be school as we knew it—this [Portrait of a Graduate] is a chance to get ahead of it.”
