Bay Area Health Officers Move to Implement the State's New Regional Stay Home Order, Not Waiting Until Local Hospitals Are Near Crisis to Act
In response to rising COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, Contra Costa County is joining the Counties of Alameda, Marin, San Francisco, and Santa Clara as well as the City of Berkeley in implementing a Regional Stay Home Order. Governor Newsom announced that the Regional Stay Home Order would apply once less than 15% of ICU beds are available. Rather than waiting until ICU bed availability reaches critical levels, the aforementioned Bay Area jurisdictions are implementing the Regional Stay Home Order now. 

In Contra Costa County, in accordance with the Regional Stay Home Order, the following changes are effective Sunday, December 6, 2020 at 10 p.m. through Monday, January 4, 2021 at 6 a.m.:
  • Restaurants may operate for take-out, curbside pickup or delivery only 
  • Bars and tasting rooms must close 
  • Indoor retail, including grocery stores, may operate at 20% capacity. Food courts and common areas in indoor malls must close. 
  • Low-contact indoor retail services (pet grooming, shoe repair, etc.) are allowed for curbside drop-off and pick-up only 
  • Personal care services, including nail and hair salons, must close 
  • Places of worship and cultural ceremonies may operate outdoors only. Indoor operations are allowed only for individual prayer/counseling. 
  • Gyms and fitness centers may operate outdoors only 
  • Drive-in events, including performances and drive-in movies, may not operate 
  • Museums and exhibit spaces must close 
  • Hotels and lodging facilities may operate for essential travel only unless guests will spend the required quarantine period in the facilities 
  • Casinos and cardrooms must close 
  • Family entertainment centers must close 
  • Playgrounds must close 
  • Overnight stays at campgrounds are not allowed 
  • Outdoor recreation facilities (sports fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, golf courses, skate parks, etc.) may operate with no mixing of households and no food or beverages 

Please also note that social bubbles of multiple households are now prohibited.

Contra Costa County COVID-19 Vaccination Plan
Contra Costa Health Services has submitted its initial plan to the California Department of Public Health for distributing COVID-19 vaccines once available. The plan identifies high-risk groups, such as healthcare workers and nursing home residents, as the first to get immunized.
