A PRAYER FOR MARCH
BY SR. HELEN JEAN NOVY, HM, VICE PRESIDENT OF MISSION
|
In Lent we might imagine God saying to us:
Be still! and Know that I am God!
God, calling to my heart,
may I be quieter so that I can hear Your deepest words.
May Lent lead me in to Your Spirit
stirring in my being and teaching me Your love.
God, drawing me to union with You and all You love,
bind me closer to all in the Communion of Saints
as we take time to contemplate
Your Son's passion, death, and resurrection.
God, propelling me to care for others,
inspire me to respond to each and all
with the fruits of the Spirit*
in kindness, patience, and generosity.
Amen.
*See Galatians 5.5.
Thoughts and Words for Lent and Spring.

MAGNIFICAT CELEBRATES BLACK HISTORY MONTH
Throughout the month of February, students, faculty, and staff worked together to plan activities and educational opportunities to lift up the voices and experiences of Black people in celebration of Black History Month. Posters of known and unknown artists, performers, writers, leaders, thinkers, poets, scientists, and activists were displayed in the main hallways, and daily announcements included educational pieces about these important figures who have made significant contributions to history. All students, faculty, and staff viewed the short film
Hair Love
, which won an Academy Award for Best Animated Short, and speaks to the importance of representation. Then students were invited to write a one-word reaction to the film on small stickers that, together, created the silhouette of a woman with Afro hair which hung in the Marian Commons for the remainder of the month. Thank you to all of the students, faculty, and staff who worked to bring together these opportunities for education, awareness, and celebration throughout Black History Month!

During her senior year,
Kaitlyn Sweeney '19 submitted an essay about her junior-year Agape Experiment to the
Love All Means All Essay Contest, a project of
The Institute for Research on Unlimited Love. Last month, Kaitlyn was named one of two recipients of the
First Place Grand Prize Awards for Writing Excellence! The project invites high school juniors and seniors to respond to the prompt "How and why do you flourish when you live by the Deep Golden Rule?" She writes, "My work with Providence house taught me a lot about what love means to me. It showed me that my love can fuel actions that have the power to heal others and to soothe them of their anxieties."

by Mary Cay Doherty
Recent Archives Antics columns have focused the spotlight on our H.M. Sisters. The Sisters of the Humility of Mary sponsor and support Magnificat High School: They serve on our board, they pray for us, they interact with our students, and they offer financial support. Most recently, the Sisters pledged one million dollars toward the capital campaign to renovate our science classrooms. Their unending and unwavering support empowers us; their individual stories inspire us.
