Welcome to the Municipal Water District of Orange County’s (MWDOC) October 2019 eCurrents newsletter. Have you ever considered what a day without water would look like? This issue of eCurrents showcases MWDOC’s effort in the annual Imagine a Day Without Water campaign hosted by the Value of Water Campaign, and features insights from a Central Valley farmer and community leader, an OC Fire Chief, and an internationally recognized leader in environment-based education. Also included, MWDOC Board and staff were honored with several awards for District transparency, good governance, and effective communications. And finally, the Family of Orange County Water Agencies is mourning the loss of one of our great leaders, former MWDOC Director Wayne Osborne, who passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2019. ANNOUNCEMENTS
MWDOC WELCOMES BACK ARMY SPC. TRACI MULDOON
October 17, 2019

The Municipal Water District of Orange County (MWDOC) is excited to welcome back Army Spc. Traci Muldoon, MWDOC Public Affairs Assistant! In May 2019, Ms. Muldoon headed to Fort George G. Meade, Maryland where she completed the Basic Public Affairs and Electronic Journalism Course, earning the title Public Affairs Mass Communications Specialist, 46S. Her expanded competency will help Ms. Muldoon and the MWDOC Public Affairs team continue to serve the ratepayers in Orange County with informative and educational videos for trainings, social media, and a variety of other outreach efforts.
MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR RETIRED MWDOC DIRECTOR WAYNE S. OSBORNE

It is with heavy hearts that the Municipal Water District of Orange County announces the passing of retired Director Wayne S. Osborne on Thursday, September 26, 2019. Wayne served the District as a Board Member for eight years and as Board President in 2016 and 2017. Director Osborne always demonstrated the highest level of integrity in decision-making and in his commitment to serving the Orange County water community. He will be truly missed.

A memorial service will be held in his honor on Friday, November 1, 2019, at 3:00 pm at the Greenbrook Clubhouse in Fountain Valley.

MWDOC EARNS MULTIPLE AWARDS AT THE 44TH ANNUAL OCPRSA PROTOS AWARDS GALA September 27, 2019

The Municipal Water District of Orange County (MWDOC or District) was awarded with six regional honors for its outstanding efforts in public relations, program development, and communication strategies. The District earned the prestigious PROTOS Award and five Awards of Excellence in the categories of Corporate Identity, Community Relations/Institutional Programs, Broadcast Productions, Press Kit - Hard Copy and Electronic, and Social Media Programs respectively. MWDOC RECOGNIZED FOR TRANSPARENCY & GOOD GOVERNANCE October 16, 2019

At the Municipal Water District of Orange County's (MWDOC or agency) October 16th Board Meeting, the Special District Leadership Foundation presented the MWDOC Board and staff with the District of Distinction Accreditation and the District Transparency Certificate of Excellence, both offered for the agency's commitment to good governance, ethical and sound operating practices, as well as the practice and promotion of transparency in operations and governance. The MWDOC Board and staff is honored to work hard every day to provide a reliable supply of high quality water, steady leadership, sound decision making, exceptional communications and good governance for the ratepayers of Orange County.

IMAGINE A DAY WITHOUT WATER
October 23, 2019

 Today, MWDOC joins more than 1,000 organizations nationwide in "Imagine a Day Without Water," an annual campaign dedicated to raising awareness about the need to protect and save our most precious natural resource. Hear from three community leaders across the state as they share what a day without water means to them.

GIRL SCOUTS WATER RESOURCES AND CONSERVATION PATCH PROGRAM
 2019-2020 Clinic Schedule

The Municipal Water District of Orange County and Girl Scouts of Orange County are once again partnering to offer the Water Resources and Conservation Patch Program for all levels of Girl Scouts. Last year alone, nearly 160 Girl Scouts completed the program and earned their patch!

The Water Resources and Conservation Patch Program educates Girl Scouts about where their water comes from, the importance of Orange County water resources, and how to be water efficient.

FREE QUALIFIED WATER EFFICIENT LANDSCAPER (QWEL) CERTIFICATION
 Register today!

The Municipal Water District of Orange County (MWDOC), along with participating MWDOC member agencies, offers FREE Qualified Water Efficient Landscaper (QWEL) certification classes for landscape professionals. Classes are open to any city staff, professional landscaper, water district employee, or maintenance personnel that would like to become a Qualified Water Efficient Landscaper. The QWEL certification program provides 20 hours of instruction on water efficient areas of expertise such as local water supply, sustainable landscaping, soil types, irrigation systems and maintenance, as well as irrigation controller scheduling and programming.

WEROC is an emergency preparedness and response program administered by Municipal Water District of Orange County for water and wastewater agencies across Orange County. Today, the WEROC team is providing training for OC first responders to improve response and coordination between multiple agencies in the event of an emergency. This training helps prepare fire, police, and water agencies so they can keep Orange County safe. Special thanks to El Toro Water District for hosting! || #OCisWaterSmart
