They Survived Sleeping on the Roof!
We'd like to thank Mr. Percoski and Officer Mike for their dedication to the school and for being such awesome sports by sleeping on the roof to help raise funds for the FHES PTO!

The students loved it and will be talking about it for years to come! Proud to be Foxes!

Thank you to all of the FHES families who donated for our PTO donation drive in September!
This Week is Red Ribbon Week at FHES
Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco, and other drug and violence prevention awareness campaign observed annually in October across the country. At FHES, we'll use the schedule below to show our commitment to sending a message to stay drug free.

E ach classroom will decide which student is best dressed in the theme of the day. The class winners will come to the main office after announcements each morning, and there will be a prize given to each grade level winner!

There will also be a pumpkin decorating contest that will be judged on Halloween. Each class will decorate their own pumpkin to go along with the Red Ribbon Week theme "Send A Message. Stay Drug Free." One class will be chosen from each grade level, and these winners will receive extra recess!
Form Due Tomorrow | Call for Library Volunteers
Volunteers are greatly needed in the FHES Library on a daily basis! Please consider volunteering once a week,
bi-weekly, or even once a month. This is a great opportunity for grandparents to get involved!

Jobs may include shelving books, helping children locate books, assisting with check out, and labeling books.

Please fill out the form that came home in last week's Wednesday folder (or click here to download and print). Forms should be returned to your child's teacher by tomorrow, Mon., Oct. 28. You will be able to specify days/times you wish to volunteer.

Mrs. Mock will host the following optional training sessions for library volunteers:
  • Tues., Oct. 29 at 9:00 am
  • Thurs., Oct. 31 at 2:30 pm

If you have any questions email Brianne Davis.
Form Due Tomorrow | Pre-sale Forms for New Books
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Wrecking Ball and Dog Man: Fetch-22 pre-sale order forms are due back to Ms. Mock by tomorrow, Mon., Oct. 28. You can get an extra copy of the form from Mrs. Mock in the library.

Blue Cards Due this Week | Health Room Information Cards
Please help us prepare Nurse Allison and her health room volunteers!

Be sure to return the blue health room information cards you should have received in your child's Wednesday folder.
This card is very important! Parent volunteers use it, so they know who to contact should your child get hurt or sick.

Return the card to your child's teacher by Wed., Oct. 30.

If you have any questions, email Sara Carr .
Forest Hill K-Kids Club Needs Your Help
We are having a donation drive to benefit the West Tennessee Veteran’s Home. The drive will begin Mon., Oct. 28 and go through Fri., Nov. 4. If you would like to donate, please send money to your child’s homeroom teacher.
Prep for our Veterans Day Program
Veterans Day is an important day for us to express our gratitude and recognize veterans we have represented at Forest Hill Elementary. We want to recognize and include all veterans in our Forest Hill family who can be present.

Please click here to open the form to fill out and turn it in to your child's teacher or to Mr. Simons. You can also  email it to Mr. Simons. Turn in forms by Nov. 8.

Due to limited space, only veterans (and a family member if needed to assist a veteran) are invited to attend. For those wishing to see the program, FHES will broadcast it live on our Facebook page .
The Big Crunch Off
At lunchtime this past Wednesday, Mr. Percoski entertained students by competing against Aramark Manager Kristin Watkins in a cooking showdown as part of Apple Crunch Day. Students enjoyed apples donated by Jones Orchard as they watched Chef Percoski win the challenge with his Apple Crunchies and Pumpkin Whip!

Look for his recipe to be featured on Aramark's lunch menu next month.
Fox Family Pancake Party in December
We would like to invite all of our Forest Hill Families to a free* Pancake Party on Sat., Dec., 14 from 7:30-10:30 am.
Join us for pancakes, a hot chocolate bar, face painting, and more. Our very own Flash the Fox will be on the cafeteria stage to take winter pictures! Come warm up with a good breakfast and tons of fun before you head to the Germantown Parade!

*This breakfast is donation only and complimentary to all of our Fox Families.
PTO Board Meetings
PTO board meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month (with a few exceptions due to holidays). The board gathers for a working meeting with chair reports including updates on the budget, events, and other happenings around the school. All PTO members are welcome to join us! Check the PTO website for a current calendar or email foresthillelementarypto@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Shout Outs
Forest Hill Elementary Running Club Had a Great Season
FHES Foxes Running Club had a fantastic first cross-country season. The team was made up of 24 students, 14 boys and 10 girls, in grades third through fifth, who competed in one-mile races through the Memphis Youth Athletics’ Cross-Country program.

Our girls' team finished consistently in the top five at each meet and our boys' best finish was eighth place. The Foxes Running Club also competed in the Frank Horton Invitational at Shelby Farms and in the West TN Regional Championships at Shelby Farms. Our girls' team finished in fifth place which qualified them for the State Championship meet in Knoxville, TN where they finished in 14 th  place.

“I am extremely proud of all of our runners for their dedication and hard work they put in during summer conditioning as well as throughout the cross-country season,” said Lanie Wood, Physical Education Instructor at Forest Hill Elementary. “A big shout out to my assistant coaches too, Shelly McKie and Amanda Lewis! I couldn’t have made it through the season without their help!”
