MRS. JOHNSON'S NOTES
Dear Parents,

It is so good to have your students back at school. We have had an amazing first week. Students have been ready, responsible and respectful throughout the day. They quickly learned a new bus dismissal procedure and rocked it!

Our Accelerated Reader competition is in full swing. So many students stopped by the school during the summer to take a test. Congratulations to our top reader Biniam Deneke.   Parents, you can also compete in our AR program. This year, we will be having competitions for parents that are reading and taking AR tests at school. If you are interested in participating, please go on to My Payments Plus to sign up. The cost will be $6.00.

Parents, if your child is a car rider in the morning, we are asking that you try to be in the line by 8:30. The morning time in the classroom is so important. Students have time to organize their materials for the day and to complete their morning assignments. All of our buses are here and most students are in the classrooms by 8:30. In addition, the breakfast line closes at 8:40. The car rider line closes at 8:45. All parents coming after that time will need to park in the gravel lot and walk their child in. The bus lanes must be left open for the middle school bus to arrive at 8:50.

Please join us next week for curriculum night. K-2 will be on Tuesday and 3-5 will be on Thursday. These nights are very important, as we will review expectations for each classroom. I look forward to seeing all of our parents here. We will not have childcare available on either night.

While you are here for curriculum night, take some time to check out our new playground. The county replaced our playground this year, as the old playground was out of compliance and new replacement parts were not available.

I am excited to announce that we have a start date for our electronic sign that was purchased by PTA using Boosterthon funds. The county will begin construction of the sign at the beginning of September. It should take about six weeks to complete.

Due to changes made at the state level, we are no longer able to send out group texts from the school. All communication will now go through email only. Please take a few minutes to go onto the parent portal to check your email address. Parents are able to make changes in the portal to correct this.

I am blessed to work at a school with such amazing teachers, parents and students. Thanks for all you do each day to support learning.

From the Cafeteria:
Attention Parents a reminder from the cafeteria:
Parents please be mindful of the balance in your child's account, these accounts are meant to work as a prepay system, therefore keeping charges to a minimum.
Those students with free or reduced meal status from last year must renew their application every year. Current benefits will run out on Monday September 16th. Please do not wait until the last minute to get your application in, the application must be processed by September 16th and that process can take up to 10 business days. Paper applications are available in the front office or the cafeteria. Online applications are a much quicker method and can be accessed at http://gwinnett.schoollunchapp.com. If you have already done either of these processes, thank you, and you can check the status of your application at http://gwinnett.schoollunchstatus.com. If you allow your benefits to run out your child's status automatically goes to full pay and you will be responsible for any charges occurred doing the time of no benefits.
If you every have questions about your student's account you may call Doris Brewer, Cafeteria Manager at 770-736-4512. Thank You
