MOVING FORWARD SAFELY
[OCHCA press conference at 2 pm today can be found
here.]
Given the longevity of this pandemic and the toll it is taking on the mental well being of our children, I encourage you to see limited
friends and family. Be sure to set boundaries well ahead of time.
- Meet only in outdoor environments. Parking lot tailgating may work well if you space 2 parking spots between you and the other car. Neighborhood driveway parties are also a nice safe way to stay connected.
- Tell your family and friends that you need 10 feet of physical distance. As you have seen, 6 feet becomes 3 feet rather quickly with children.
- Keep a closed social group of only 2-3 nuclear families and agree to only meeting with them. Ask people how many others they are meeting up with. Make sure you trust them to be honest. With time and the return to school, we need to teach children safe practices so this is a good time to start.
As
businesses reopen this month stay away from unnecessary errands but don't skimp on things you need for your well being. Medically and epidemiologically there is nothing different this month than last month. Mask and decontaminate before coming into the house.
As of this morning, OC was given permission by Newsome for phased OC beach reopening (
Orange County Beaches). PLEASE BE SMART AND SPACE YOURSELF. Because you cannot control others at the beach I would try to avoid this option.
Restaurants are being encouraged to open for take out.
If you use take out:
- Consider heating all food at 210 degrees for 5 minutes. Salads will still be fresh enough to eat. This level of heat will only kill virus on surfaces but is a means to limit your exposures without driving yourself crazy.
- Focus on the external containers being the contaminate rather than the food itself. Transfer food onto plates and throw out all containers all at once and then decontaminate before you heat your food. Tinfoil can go directly in the open.
Medical Care:
Offices are setting up clean and safe practice protocols. I can help facilitate any return to specialists and will make sure we get you in as the first patient of the day.
School:
My husband's company is assisting schools with a safe plan for return to school in the Fall. Hearing these conversations I feel that this will happen for the most part. Preschools however are a different hurdle as that age group inevitable shares all the exposures in one classroom. Consider other options for preschoolers such as a nanny share at a friends home with people you trust.
