For us here at Knife Rights, it a great day to reflect on the progress we've made towards the Sharper Future™ we promised back when we started. Since 2010, 34 bills enacted repealing knife bans in 23 states and over 150 cities and towns. I just got off a phone call that served to hammer that point home in a most positive way.

The young man on the phone with his dad is eight years old. He likes knives, good for him and his dad. His concern was that the knife bans in his state make no sense, so why do they exist? And, how can he help fix them? Fair questions.

He'd done his research and didn't get any good answers. At just eight years of age, it was a bit of a challenge for me to walk him through the imperfections of our system of government, the history of knife bans, and how we often end up with stupid laws. People, legislators and politicians are hardly perfect. If they were, we'd not have any work to do. In any case, he now has a better idea of how bad laws come about.

You have to love that he wants to learn and, even more important, he wants to help make a difference. And, he will. When we have our next bill hearing in his state, he'll be writing to support the bill and he'll be there, providing testimony in front of the committee members on a bill to unwind some of those knife restrictions that he, and us, believe "makes no sense."

Last week we celebrated 15 years since I opened the Wall Street Journal to an article "How New, Deadly Pocketknives Became a $1 Billion Business." That overwrought and sensationalist article was filled with distortions, misrepresentations, innuendo, outright lies and cherry-picked quotes pushing a transparent rabid anti-weapon and anti-freedom agenda attacking loosely defined "tactical knives."-- what today many would call "fake news." But, the story didn't quite spark the anti-knife response the reporter clearly hoped for -- in fact, it had precisely the opposite effect.
