JANUARY 2017
Happy New Year!

I hope that you all had a wonderful holiday season. We had two fun events (a Thanksgiving Day welcome tent at the LHS Football game and a Young Alumni Mixer) leading up to the holidays that helped us to attract 100 new members to our group raising our total number to 8500+.

Don't let others get left out! Share this email with friends, former classmates and colleagues so they can become official members of the LHS Alumni Association. To join, they simpy need to complete our online form. We will certainly keep you informed of all of our upcoming events.

Take care,
Caroline (Petruzziello) Rider - Class of 1983

Alumni Spotlight: Isata Tucker
Staff Sgt. Isata Tucker, a 2012 graduate, understands adversity and, most importantly, how to bounce-back from it.

At the age of seven she had to flee her war-torn home country of Sierra Leone. At LHS she excelled, earning a 4.0 GPA and a college scholarship. However, her lack of immigration paperwork made it impossible for her to attend.

Upon the advice of her former ROTC instructors, Isata enlisted in the United States Air Force and hasn't looked back since.

"Never put all your eggs in one basket. If there is something you're really passionate about, do all you can for that vision, but also make sure you have a backup plan in case you stumble on a roadblock. But whatever you do never give up."

Take a Walk Down Memory Lane
The Alumni Association recently completed a video highlighting LHS and some of our current students. While watching this video, I think you'll see both many similarities as well as many differences from your days at LHS.

Consider Being a Guest Speaker
Lowell High School currently offers many career-based curriculum pathways for the more than 3,000 enrolled students to choose from. These pathways include:
  • Business, Marketing and Finance
  • Health and BioScience
  • Air Force Junior ROTC
  • Culinary Arts
  • Engineering
  • Public Service and Civic Engagement
  • Communications
If you are currently working in one of these fields, please consider becoming a guest speaker. Discussions may include what type of post-high school education/training is needed, and what types of job opportunities are available. Lowell High School students would benefit from learning why you chose your career and what it took to get there.

If you are passionate about your work and would like to discuss your chosen field with students who may be pursing a similar career choice, contact Angela Lawler-Brennan at [email protected] to set up a time to discuss how you can help.

PROJECT LEARN SPOTLIGHT
Did you know... the number of books in a child's home directly predicts reading achievement and long-term academic success?

Yet, the average number of books in a low-income family's home is 0.

Project LEARN is working to change that through our BookNook program, which will provide 2,500 FREE books directly to children in our community who need them.

Learn how you or your business can get involved...
