May is National Bike Month
May is National Bike Month and now is a great time to take a break and go for a bike ride. Don't forget these bike safety tips before you go:
  • Always wear a helmet
  • Wear light, bright and/or reflective clothing
  • When riding between sunset and sunrise, use white lights on the front of your bike and red lights and reflectors on the rear of your bike
  • Obey all traffic lights, signs and signals
  • Use proper hand signals if making a turn or stopping
  • Never carry another person on your bike
  • Ride on the right in the same direction as traffic
  • Check for traffic before entering any street or intersection
  • Be careful around parked cars and watch for opening doors
  • Give an audible warning with your voice, bell or horn before passing others and always yield to pedestrians when riding on a sidewalk

Narcoossee Road Widening Project Update
Questions or Concerns
24-Hour Hotline
Quest Corporation of America

Why was the bike lane on Narcoossee Road eliminated?
The elimination of the bike lane is to allow room for the installation of a low-profile, barrier wall in the median. This wall is necessary to allow crews to safely work on the road during high traffic times. Once the project is completed, the bike lanes on the roadway will be re-established.  The new, multi-use trail that begins near Lake Nona Boulevard has been completed and is open for use. The bicyclists friendly components remain and will be added closer to the end of the project.

Why is Narcoossee Road being repaved when the road is being widened?
When the new lanes are completed, the cross slope of the entire road will need to be different. The existing asphalt is being milled and new structural asphalt is being placed at this point in the project to adjust the final cross slope which will allow for proper drainage. This new cross slope will be used to match elevations when the new lanes are constructed and the friction (final) asphalt is placed along the entire project.
