FAITH-LIFT

Several years ago, my daughter was playing on the school playground with a friend. Her friend blindfolded her and told her she was going to tell her where to go. My daughter 'blindly' trusted her friend to make sure she didn't bump into any obstacles along the way. As my daughter tells it, the friend told her to walk straight into a metal pole. My daughter ended up cracking her front tooth and had to get it fixed. I look back on that incidence that maybe my daughter just wasn't trusting enough of her friend to really follow her directions.

We hear phrases in our society all the time about the blind leading the blind, or blind justice, or blind as a bat. Our text for Sunday (Luke 18: 35-43) tells of the blind man who has more insight into who Jesus was than Jesus' own followers. He saw Jesus as the ONE who was going to set things right, do the right (and loving) thing, and restore real sight to the world. Next time you see a blind person, don't shortchange the wisdom they may have. Lean more into their insights and gain your own from them.

For November and December, the Cornerstone Class will be exploring prophecy in general and the biblical book of Amos in particular. Rev. Dr. Marty Stevens will lead the class in examining the roots and goals of prophecy, the communication style of prophets, and the specific circumstances and prophecy of Amos. Come to Room A-8 by 10 am on Sunday morning. The classes build on each other, but you can also learn something each week without coming to every class. Bring your own Bible or use one provided in class. All are welcome!

ONGOING MINISTRIES:

NEW NEEDS!   The Barnabas Network (BN)  truly appreciates all that First Lutheran does to help needy residents establish their homes once they have been approved for assistance.  BN will contact us periodically to update their most urgent shortages.  They still need twin XL sheets and now need a few King size as well.  Bath, hand and face towels are also requested.  If you are able to help with new or gently used items you can drop them off in the Mission Depot box marked BN.  THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR FAITHFUL GENEROSITY.  If there are any questions please call or email Ruth Zeemer.

GUM Friday Morning Breakfast Group is in need of peanut butter and jam/jelly.  We make 80+ lunches for our guests every week, so our supplies go fast.  Please bring any donations and put them in the marked collection box in the Mission Depot.   Thanks for your help!

GUM Friday Morning Breakfast Group also makes Blessing Bags every year at Christmas.  As you travel, please gather any unused hotel sized personal items.  We use them in the bags for our guests.  Any donations can be put in the marked collection box in the Mission Depot.
