County Temporarily Bans Short-Term Rentals and B&B's

From Carl Holm, Director,
Monterey County Resource Management Agency:

In light of the Monterey County mandatory Shelter in Place Order issued on March 17th, 2020, and the California State Stay Home order issued March 19th, 2020 by the Governor of California, all transient lodging operations are asked to comply with best practices to protect the community health. The Resource Management Agency (RMA) conferred with the County’s Public Health Official and County Counsel who opined that transient lodging operations include hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts, and short term (less than 30 days) vacation rentals. These operations may stay open to support essential businesses and sectors but must not be open for “vacation or leisure activity”.

This is a courtesy notice that all vacation rentals must stop operating for vacation purposes while this Order is in place. Activity or advertisement to the contrary is subject to enforcement by the Sheriff Office.

Note: Please report any short-term rentals in your area to CVA at president@carmelvalleyassociation.org , and we'll notify the county.
Friends,

With the ever-evolving COVID-19 pandemic severely impacting our communities, we all need to stay informed about current state actions being taken to protect public health and the resources available to help ease the strain on our families, friends and neighbors.

As your State Senator, I will continue to work diligently to help provide assistance and keep you informed. I have put together a list of information and resources to address the impacts of COVID-19. If you need any information about COVID-19 in your county of residence, school districts, or information on the various state and federal relief programs, please review the information below. I hope you find this helpful during these trying times.

Federal Resources
Our Federal partners are helping to assist and provide relief for small businesses, community healthcare providers and hospitals, and CDC guidelines.

Because of the COVID-19 outbreak, our hospitals are seeing severe shortages in donated blood. Hospitals need donated blood to ensure it is available to those in critical need. If you are eligible and healthy, I strongly encourage you to make an appointment to donate blood today. For more information on local blood banks in your community, please visit:  https://www.redcrossblood.org/
A special thank you to those providing essential support in healthcare, food production and distribution, postal and delivery services, and emergency services. And for those of us who continue to shelter-at-home, thank you for doing your part to stay informed, and to help take care of your loved ones and community. We are all in this together.
Sincerely,

Senator Bill Monning
From the Big Sur Land Trust:

Stay healthy! Research continues to show that parks and open spaces provide health benefits beyond just physical exercise. Fresh air and organic compounds produced by trees may be a natural pharmacy that can help support our immune systems. Along with other important recommended precautions, none of us should forget our Vitamin N — Vitamin Nature!

If solo time in nature sounds right for you, visit our website and sign up for a self-guided hike on one of our spectacular conserved properties. In the meantime, to be cautious, we are suspending our guided hike program for the foreseeable future. We will let you know as soon as they are available again.

Be Well,

The Team at Big Sur Land Trust

Curious About CVA?
Carmel Valley Association is one of the oldest, largest, and most suc cessful community organizations in Monterey County. We are entirely volunteer, with no paid employees. Our mission is to defend the beauty, resources and rural character of our beautiful valley. We do that by working with residents, businesses, and government.

CVA was instrumental in the adoption of the Carmel Valley Master Plan and recently settled a lawsuit with Monterey County regarding traffic measurement and capping future development on very favorable terms for our valley. Our volunteer experts represent Carmel Valley's interest, testifying before governmental bodies concerning development, water, traffic, road signs, and other quality of life issues.

We keep valley residents informed about important issues and events with our weekly email Bulletin, which goes to over 1200 residents, and our quarterly Newsletter, which is mailed to over 7,000 valley addresses.
