AIRFIELD STRIPING
A bid solicitation was put out through the City's purchasing department to select an on-call striping contractor. This will allow for striping projects to occur within 30 days of a need being identified without the requirement to go out to bid for each individual project.
TOWER HOURS
The City manager has sent a letter to the FAA on behalf of the airport to officially request an extension of the operating hours from 6:00am to 9:00pm. We are currently awaiting a response.
FM 110
Construction on the section for FM 110 that will pass through the airport is anticipated to begin in the summer of 2021.
AIRPORT MASTER PLAN
The Airport Layout Plan has been approved by TxDOT and has been sent to FAA for review. The entire plan will be presented to Council in the first quarter of 2021 for local approval.
TAXIWAYS ALPHA & CHARLIE
The FAA, via TxDOT, has reported that the reconstruction of both taxiways will be funded via discretionary funding in 2022 (Charlie) and 2023 (Alpha). More information on exact timing will be available closer to the end of FY 2022. In the meantime, we will continue to push for funding if available through stimulus programs approved by Congress.
AIRPORT HAZARD ZONING
As development increases east of I-35, we will begin taking necessary steps to review compatible land uses and height restrictions to protect the airport.
RUNWAY PAVEMENT STRENGTH ANALYSIS
We have made a request to TxDOT to perform a pavement strength analysis on all of our runways to determine their weight bearing capacity.
ATCT UPDATE
The tower is currently under-staffed but anticipates having all new hires trained and on board by February of 2021. Once they are back to a full staff, there will be two controllers on the radios at all times. User surveys are available at Berry Aviation and the tower manager encourages all users to fill one out.
