Principal's Message

I am excited to welcome you and your child(ren) to the 2021-2022 academic year at Guardian Angels School! It has been a busy and productive summer and we are eagerly anticipating the presence of our “angels” on the first day of school, which is August 19.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to challenge us in many ways. We concluded last school year in celebratory fashion, recognizing all our tremendous accomplishments of a successful school year. Part of the celebration was the hope that we would enter this school year with many lifted restrictions and a stronger sense of normalcy. However, the pandemic continues to be unpredictable. As always, our priority and focus for the upcoming year will be the safety of our students, while providing the most productive learning environment possible.

To do this, we will use what we learned through last year, as well as the most current data and research, to finalize our pandemic safety plan for the 2021-2022 school year. Our full plan, including a decision on masks, will be communicated next week.

Another major focus throughout the summer has been hiring. Over the past two months, we have been extremely fortunate to hire many outstanding educators who will guide and assist our angels in earning their HALOs. In addition to the previously announced staff members who retired/resigned, Rachel O’Toole and Katie Rieman will also not be returning to Guardian Angels. Please join me in wishing them well as they begin new journeys!

Finally, student schedules and teacher placements will be available through Rediker’s PlusPortals on Friday by 3:00pm. PlusPortals gives parents the ability to view homerooms, schedules, grades, attendance, and additional class information. Homeroom information will be posted under the "School Links and Files" section, which can be found at the bottom of the first page after logging in to PlusPortals. If you have questions about PlusPortals, please email Mark Rinaudo, Technology Coordinator.

God bless,

Corey Stoops

Summer Math and Reading

Now is the time to make sure students in grades 1-8 are wrapping up their required summer reading and math assignments! Also, please remember our optional summer reading challenge! Details for all requirements are listed on the school website

Meet and Greet

Our Meet and Greet for students in grades KDG-8 is scheduled for Wednesday, August 18 from 1:00-1:45 in students’ classrooms. All parents and students are invited to meet teachers and drop off school supplies. This is a great opportunity to acclimate your child to his/her new classroom. A special treat will be served to students in the parking lot at 1:45.

School Supplies

Many parents took advantage of pre-ordering our school supply kits and these will arrive next week! Kits will be available for pick up from the primary hallway on Thursday, August 12 from 8:00-3:00. If you are purchasing supplies on your own, school supply lists for each grade can be found on our website

Christian Service Program - Faith in Action

The purpose of the Christian Service Program is to enhance the religion curriculum at Guardian Angels Church. It is the duty of all Christians to reach out in service to those around them. Christ asks us to be His hands and feet on earth, keeping His mission of reaching out to those in need alive. The students will complete their service within the following settings: at home, the parish community/school and the community at-large. This outreach may be completed individually, with a partner, or in a group.

This program will focus more on the meaning of the actual service opportunities rather than completing a prescribed amount of time. You will choose activities for each component—service to your family, service to your school/parish and service to the poor and vulnerable in our community. There is no minimum requirement of hours to complete. Grades 1-3 are required to complete at least 2 activities for each component; grades 4-8 at least 3 for each. You are certainly encouraged to complete more! See your Religion teacher, Mrs. Froehlich, or the parish website for a list of suggested activities and the log sheet.

Questions? Contact Kay Froehlich, Director of Religious Education, for more information.

Upcoming Car Washes

The 8th grade class is holding two car washes to raise money for its class trip and graduation activities. Each car wash is held at McNicholas High School. Consider dropping your car off before Mass!

Sunday, August 29 - 9:00am-1:30pm

Sunday, September 26 - 9:00am-1:30pm

Register Today - The GA 5K Halo Hustle Is Back On Sept 11th

We were extremely excited about the changes we made to the 5k race in 2019 — and this year it will be back and even bigger than before! In addition to a great chip-timed 5K course, the race will be followed with a party including live music from Model Behavior, food trucks, beverages, games, and a ninja warrior course. Click here to register or get more information.

Sponsorship Opportunities

Looking for ways to promote your company or donate to special projects at GA? See the attached file for more details on how you can become a sponsor for this great event. Due to the generosity of our sponsors and participation from our community, in just two years the 5K has been able to fund the HSPT course for the 8th grade students, install (3) new basketball hoops on the playground and donated $15,000 towards the PTA playground project. Help us continue to make GA school a great place for our teachers and students!

News From The Religious Education Office

CCD Help Needed

Looking for ways to become more involved in our parish programs? We have openings in our CCD program in the primary grades. We are looking for Catholic adults who are interested in sharing their faith with the children of our parish. Teaching experience is helpful, but not required. Stipends are available for CCD catechists. CCD will take place in 24 sessions Sunday mornings from 8:30-9:45 am between September 12 through May 1.

We are also in need of high school aides. We have students in many grade levels who require additional assistance or grade levels that could use another set of hands, eyes and ears.

High school aides would receive a stipend of $150 or Christian Service Hours. Attendance at every CCD session would equal to 36 hours.

Interested in becoming Catholic?

Are you a non-Catholic parent or spouse in our parish? Do you attend Mass with your family? Have you ever thought about becoming Catholic? Now is the time! We are pleased to offer classes for those who are part of our GA community, but have not been initiated into the Church. God desires you to participate in the Church fully and receive Him in the Eucharist.

For more information about either of these opportunities, contact Kay Froehlich.

The Feast of the Guardian Angel
