A Tribute to Ethan Wasserberger ' 19
 Ethan Wasserberger
Beloved Classmate, Teammate, Alumnus
December 26, 2003 - November 22, 2019
Ethan Wasserberger ('19) attended Allen-Stevenson from Kindergarten to Eighth Grade, following in the footsteps of his father, Simon ('85) and uncle, Mark ('82). Ethan loved A-S from his first moments as a young student, from greeting a coach or teacher on the 78th Street corner each morning, to giving a big handshake to Mr. Trower at every chance. Early teachers, Ms. Bulfair and Ms. DeMatteis, had a big influence on Ethan, as did the inimitable Ms. Robelyn Schrade-James who first inspired Ethan with a love of music. In later years, Mr. Haarmann and Mr. Harris would encourage Ethan in math and English to strive for more.

Ethan embraced so much of what A-S offered. The School suited Ethan's love of tinkering - including Alligator Soup activities such as magic and parkour, Lego robotics, Scratch, and Mr. McCallum's STEM summer camp. He actively participated in the School hockey team, often helping newer players learn the sport, and spring lacrosse - anything with a stick, helmet and pads!

Ethan learned the importance of being a scholar and a gentleman, and was constantly surrounded by friends who supported him, perhaps none more so than his cousin Jordan Wasserberger ('19). The boys, early on dubbed "hamburger and cheeseburger" - a mashup of their last names and differing hair color - were inseparable for much of their nine years at A-S.

Perhaps the most influential person at A-S for Ethan was Mr. David Kersey, who had also taught Simon and Mark. Early love of theatre was evident as a maiden in "Pirates of Penzance", but it was in 7th and 8th Grade that Ethan truly found his voice on the stage. Performances of "Twelve Angry Men" and as Bassanio in "Merchant of Venice" were true highlights of Ethan's time at A-S.

Graduating with honors in Spring 2018 and receiving the Tunney Creative Writing Award and Computer Art Award, Ethan left A-S with a well-developed curiosity about the world. The Wasserberger family is forever grateful for all that the School provided and meant to Ethan.
Allen-Stevenson News
An Update from Headmaster
David Trower h'95

Headmaster Trower announced on May 2 that Allen-Stevenson will not be able to re-open the schoolhouse for the rest of this academic year, however our robust remote learning platform, A-S Bridge , will continue through June 10. At this point in time, it is our intention to return to the building in September. As our highest priority remains ensuring the health and safety of our community, our planning will follow guidelines regularly updated and issued by public health authorities. We will continue to be in touch with our community with timely updates.

Like most schools, we are receiving new and increased requests for financial aid. Our priority is to keep our boys enrolled at A-S and support their families during this crisis. We are grateful for your consideration of an unrestricted gift to Allen-Stevenson, which will enable us to use funds for the most immediate needs of our community.
