Social Justice and Peace Studies Courses to Consider this Fall
SJPS 2290 - Eco-Spirituality: Eco-Spirituality focuses on traditional and emerging spiritual responses to our physical environment, climate change and modern development. We will strongly emphasize Indigenous practices and explore how human communities interact, respect and find meaning in the natural environment, and also examine the consequences of not doing so.
SJPS 3382 - Ecological Justice: Scientists are largely in agreement that we are living in the age of the Anthropocene. This course focuses on the ways in which human engagement and with exploitation of the environment has contributed to inequality, health impacts and future concerns for our ongoing activities on the planet.
SJPS 3365 - Advanced Dispute Resolution: Advanced Dispute Resolution: Our communities are rising up and demanding change in policing, housing and labour equity. How do we begin to solve the problem of engaging with groups who fundamentally disagree with how these issues should be solved? Our dispute resolution courses focus on building trust and communication between diverse social groups. This is a highly interactive course, rooted in simulations to give students real time experience in building strategies to resolve conflict at the community level.
