Outdoor Coffee
Friday, September 3 at 10am

Come chat over coffee at Kaldi’s - 120 S. Kirkwood Road Kirkwood, MO 63122
It’s a very spacious outdoor setting just across from City Hall.
As we head into Labor Day Weekend, let’s talk about jobs we have had in our lives and what we have learned about ourselves and others along the way.
(You might want to walk around Kirkwood after our time together.)

Pending Hospitality
The International Institute of St Louis (IISTL) is anticipating 1,000 refugee cases this year. They don't know when these new Americans will come - sometimes they receive as little as 24-48 hours' notice of arrival. IISTL will need our help. The best things we can do right now is to prepare - fill out interest forms and applications, stay engaged and informed. We're sure other organizations will form and become more involved. New needs will formulate. Be patient and flexible with the ever-changing landscape that is refugee resettlement.
Here is a list of what will be needed before people arrive -
Please begin gathering these items. We will talk more about a process for donating.

Worship with us this Sunday!
Worship In-Person in the Sanctuary or on Facebook Live… or later on YouTube.

Our scriptures are Proverbs 22:2, 9, 22; James 14:14-17 and Mark 7:31-37. Jesus heals a man wh0 is deaf and has a speech impediment. Jesus says “Ephphatha!” which means “be opened.” How might what we hear cause us to speak up and speak out?

It is a Communion Sunday so prepare a simple sacred meal of bread/crackers and wine/juice if you will be participating virtually or know that you will receive a pre-packaged communion meal here when you arrive.

Reminder: It is a Give-A-Meal Sunday so please consider bringing gifts of non-perishable food items for hungry people in St Louis—and/or make a contribution online to Circle of Concern (Valley Park) or Isaiah 58 Ministries (St Louis City). Items most needed include peanut butter, breakfast cereal, canned fruit, healthy snacks, condiments, canned pasta, dinner “helpers,” dry pasta, tomato sauce, jelly … as well personal care items such as shampoo, razors, ibuprofen, dish soap and laundry soap.

Livestream worship on designated Sundays. Look under videos for previous livestreamed services.

September is Suicide Awareness and Prevention Month
It’s time to raise awareness on this stigmatized, and often taboo, topic. In addition to shifting public perception, use this month to spread hope and vital information to people affected by suicide. Be intentional this month so that individuals, friends and families have access to the resources they need to discuss suicide prevention and to seek help. Do some exploring of these websites and share what you learn with others…

Courage is not something that you already have that makes you brave when the tough times start. Courage is what you earn when you’ve been through the tough times and you discover they aren’t so tough after all. —Malcolm Gladwell
