Start Your Day the Organized Way in 2020!

Organized spaces help to start your day off right.  Have you ever experienced that morning when everything goes smoothly? Get that smooth start every day by having some key spaces organized.

Coffee/Tea Station
Some of us (me included) need caffeine to start our day. Getting a coffee maker with a timer, making a habit of setting it the night before and waking up to a freshly brewed pot was a game changer for me. It's even nicer when everything you need to enjoy it is at your fingertips, in an organized spot, adjacent to the coffee maker.  For example, here's a coffee station with coffee cups (regular and To Go), coffee and tea, sweetener, and coffee maker supplies at the ready.

Lunch Station

Making take along lunches for yourself
and/or your family is much simpler when the items you need are stored in one area. For example, you can pull together lunch bags, thermoses, Tupperware, plastic utensils, sandwich bags/wax paper and napkins and house them in the same place.

Bathroom
Now to get ready for your day: Have the products which you use on a regular basis pulled together and separate from those that you use occasionally. By easily accessing what you need and not having to shuffle through a multitude of products, you'll save time and frustration. These pictures show a makeup drawer that has everyday items separated by type as well as an under the sink area that has one container for morning-use products and one container for night-time products along with daily hair care products.

Closet
Imagine how much time you'd save getting dressed each day if everything in your closet fit and everything you needed to put an outfit together is in plain sight!

Make that happen by eliminating the items that no longer fit or that you no longer wear. Then organize what remains by category and then by color. You'll be amazed at how fast you can decide what to wear each day and may even discover clothing combinations you hadn't considered before.

To Do List
Before you go to bed, prepare a specific and realistic list of what you want to accomplish the following day. By having it done ahead of time, you'll dive right into what needs to get done and your morning will be much calmer because you won't have to shuffle through your inbox to decide what is most important to focus on that day. Whether your list is written in a physical planner, on your phone, on an index card you have in your pocket or purse or on an app like ToDoList, the important thing is to have a list in a format that works for you.

I hope you have a wonderful 2020, one organized morning at a time!

Best Regards,
Linda

I love spending my days working one-on-one with my clients but I also really enjoy  teaching organizing classes. I do this several times a year through New Trier Extension and this year I am offering something completely new -- a class for people who want to accomplish their organizing goals with the support of a group and a Certified Professional Organizer® (Me ). We'll meet (about) every two weeks and in each session we will discuss how to tackle another space in your home; any challenges you encountered in working toward your goals from the previous session; and ideas for overcoming obstacles.

Expect to have fun as you cross your decluttering and organizing "To-Do's" off your list!  For cost and enrollment information go to www.ntx203.net or call the New Trier Extension office at 847-446-6600

Dates:  Tuesdays,  March 10, 31, April 14, 28, May 12, 26th
