May 21, 2020
The school district is committed to keeping you updated throughout the COVID-19 closure of Des Moines Public Schools' buildings and our completion of the school year through distance learning.

Today, we share a Memorial Day reminder about food service, vintage photos on our district's 113th anniversary, a curbside celebration for Lincoln seniors, and the interesting way one neighborhood plans to salute Roosevelt High School's Class of 2020.
NO FOOD SERVICE ON MONDAY, MAY 25 - MEMORIAL DAY
A reminder our food distribution sites will not be open on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25. However, extra food for the weekend will be sent home with families on Friday. Rain or shine, we will be at all 50 meal distribution sites weekdays from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM to serve our kids. Click here to see a list of the meal sites.  Be sure to see the map on this web page to find the site most convenient for you.
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO DES MOINES PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Today's the 113th anniversary of Des Moines Public Schools (although the past couple of months make it seem a little longer). On this date in 1907 the creation of the Des Moines Independent Community School District was approved. Luckily, artists and photographers have been around to capture our history through the years. Click here to see some of our old buildings.
NORTH HIGH SCHOOL'S INTO THE WOODS: NOW STREAMING
High school students across the country and here in Des Moines went without just about everything this Spring, including being able to perform plays and musicals they worked so hard on. But, North High School wasn't about to leave for the year without sharing with you their fairy-tale musical, Into the Woods. Click here to read more and view a rehearsal.
LINCOLN HIGH SCHOOL DRIVE-THRU SERVES UP SCHOLARSHIPS
It was dollars for Rails scholars yesterday as the Lincoln High School Alumni Association presented 88 scholarships totaling nearly $90,000 to seniors during a curbside celebration. The alumni association is a Dollars for Scholars chapter, and since 1990 has awarded just over $1 million to Lincoln seniors. Members of the alumni association along with school administrators were on hand to present the scholarship, give each car some LHS 2020 cookies, and cheer the soon-to-be graduates. Click here to see photos of a parade of scholarship recipients.
ROOSEVELT HIGH SCHOOL RECOGNITION SATURDAY
Our commencements were originally planned for later this week but, well, a pandemic came along. Plans to honor the Class of 2020 had to change, but our seniors are still being celebrated in ways big and small. On Saturday, take a drive down Polk Boulevard to see the Procession of Pennants in support of Roosevelt High School's soon-to-be graduates.
