Governor Reynolds Enables Remote Notarization
Governor Reynolds issued a proclamation earlier this week that suspends Iowa Code Chapter 9B.6, which requires notarizations to be conducted in the physical presence of the notary.

ICUL has worked closely with state leaders on this issue, and we are very appreciative of their support as they acted quickly and in the best interest of consumers.

The Governor’s proclamation requires that any use of remote notarization comply with section six of Senate File 475 (the remote notary bill passed in 2019) along with guidance from the Secretary of State’s office.

PolicyWorks has evaluated the Secretary of State's guidance and produced a helpful document for credit unions. Find resources here .

Special recognition to the 2017 Iowa Innovation Group 'Remotary' team for highlighting the need for remote notarization for Iowans in their final project. This innovation will impact many Iowans in this time of need.
