FROM THE CITY OF MONTEREY
COVID-19 Local Update - in Brief
April 30, 2020
On March 17, 2020, the City of Monterey and the Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce announced a COVID-19 Business Action and Economic Recovery Team partnership to tackle two critical issues stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic: 1) addressing short-term impacts from the loss of business to local employees and their employers, and 2) prepare for economic recovery once the COVID-19 threat has diminished. The momentum is good as we work together with approximately 50 leaders from business and non-profits, including the Monterey County
Convention and Visitors Bureau (MCCVB) and the Monterey County Hospitality Association (MCHA).

Watch for more information in the spring issue of City Focus on the economic recover projects the teams are working on. Effective tomorrow, May 1, a New Partial Beach and Parks Closure
The City of Monterey yesterday announced a partial beach and parks closure. This temporary measure provides additional health and safety assurance during the COVID-19 pandemic emergency shelter in place order. “We understand how important it is for our residents to get outside for fresh air and exercise during the shelter in place order and we want that to continue,” said City Manager Hans Uslar. “This order tries to achieve the balance between allowing our residents to walk our beaches and parks and enforcing the intent of the health orders. We want to discourage our beaches from becoming overcrowded during the continued shelter in place order. We have to ensure the public’s health by maintaining social distancing in our beaches and parks." Read the full news release
