Your semi-monthly Recreation activities information.
WE MAKE YOUR FREE TIME, FUN TIME!
GREETINGS,

HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope you and your families enjoyed the Christmas holiday, and I wish you a safe and healthy 2021! The Parks and Recreation office at Town Hall, plus our Civic Centers and the Dorothy Hamill Skating Rink will be closed New Year's Day, January 1.

As a reminder, we have revised the dates of our youth indoor sports programs beginning in January. The specific dates of each program have been adjusted in order to comply with the State of CT pause on sports which is in effect through January 19, 2021. Additionally, as has been the case, participation numbers are limited and safety precautions, such as wearing masks and social distancing, are required. In order to continue to successfully and safely operate, we need YOUR COOPERATION in following the rules. Should it be necessary for the Town to cancel any programs, refunds will be provided. Should you wish to withdraw from a program, the withdrawal policy is stated below.

The Parks and Recreation Office at Town Hall is open to the public weekdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. only. Most business can be done online. Office staff are available by email; feel free to contact us. Both the Eastern and Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Centers are closed to the general public, but they have resumed programming. Only those persons registered for programs, and no more than one parent/guardian per youth participant will be admitted to the Civic Centers. The buildings are available for rent for meetings and for rent for recreation activities. No private parties for the time being. The Dorothy Hamill Skating Rink is open. More information is found below.

Best regards,
Sue Snyder, Recreation Superintendent

Sports on Pause - Athletic Field Update

  • Governor Lamont's Executive Order No. 9M issued on 11/20/2020 authorizes the Commissioner of Economic and Community Development (DECD) to enact Sector Rules for all sports activities.
  • The DECD has enacted a mandatory "Pause" affecting all sporting activities except for collegiate and professional from 11/23/20 through 01/19/21.
  • Therefore, the Town of Greenwich will be closing all public athletic fields to recreational activities, team sports, and personal use effective 11/25/20 through 01/19/21.
  • The Greenwich Police Department and Field Monitors will be monitoring for rule compliance.
Dorothy Hamill Skating Rink
The skating rink is open for public sessions. Additional public sessions may be added. As a result of the pause on sports through January 19, ice rentals are on a restricted basis. For all rink activities, only one adult parent/guardian spectator will be admitted to the rink along with a child skater. Also, locker rooms are not available; skaters must come dressed to skate except for putting on their skates.

Registration for session 2 of Skating School is open online for residents and by mail for non-residents. Registration closes December 31 or when classes are full. Session 2 begins in early January 2021. Stick and Puck sessions will be held throughout the season. Please take notice of concussion safety precautions.

Griffith E. Harris Golf Course
The "Griff" is closed for the season. However, the Administration office will be open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday. We would like to thank all of our loyal customers for their continued support this past season. We wish you and your families a very safe and Happy Holiday Season and look forward to seeing you in Spring of 2021!
Withdrawal Policy for Recreation Activities other than Day Camps
Credit requests for recreation program registration will be considered if received in writing prior to the start of the program. There is a $15.00 administrative fee for credits.
