The Committee helps plan and promote the social and educational events of the Chapter for each year. Should you want to volunteer for this committee, please contact jminzey@bialav.org . On Friday, our Affordable Housing Committee met to discuss and identify the most important issues facing the building industry and finalize position papers and talking points on topics related to the cost of housing. For more information on this committee please reach out to crangel@bialav.org .
CAMARILLO "HOUSING ISSUES" FORUM
Senior Director of Government Affairs, Christine Rangel, attended “ Getting to YES: Building Community Support ”, a housing issues forum hosted by HOME (Housing Opportunities Made Easier) in Camarillo. Developers, constituents who demand “responsible development” and City officials all agreed that the best way to deter opposition to your project head-on—and save you from redrafting a project—is by engaging communities and neighborhood councils as early as possible.

ADVOCACY IN ACTION
LA COUNTY INCLUSIONARY UPDATE
On Monday, BIA-LAV staff and members attended a meeting convened by the Los Angeles County Regional Planning Department on the County's Inclusionary Zoning policy. County staff asked stakeholders for input on how to craft the inclusionary ordinance. BIA made recommendations on the need to make the ordinance an incentive based one, instead of mandatory. Additionally, BIA spoke about the need to ensure that an inclusionary zoning policy does not increase the cost to housing or delay the building process by truly offsetting any incurred costs for providing below market rate housing.
