Virtual Conversation: Intergenerational Programs & Physical Distancing
Generations United is hosting a series of informal conversations via Zoom to discuss challenges and more importantly share ideas and solutions on how we can adapt our programs and activities and create new intergenerational connections during these unprecedented times. Due to overwhelming response and technical limitations for our first meeting, we are hosting a repeat on Thursday, March 26 at 3:00 pm Eastern. We have expanded the capacity of our Zoom account so everyone who registers should be able to join the meeting. Please note that if you attended the first meeting on the 24th, we will be covering the same material. Register in advance to join the Zoom meeting. Stay tuned for future events, which we will announce here.

Preferred candidates will be facilitative coalition builders who can work at multiple levels with the GIA membership, board members, and affiliated organizations, providing leadership as appropriate and establishing a basis for trust and mutuality of expectations. Kids Can Join Children's Book Author Mo Willems for Daily "Lunch Doodles" on YouTube
With the novel coronavirus outbreak closing schools across the country, many kids are now expected to continue their education from home. For the next several weeks, Mo Willems will be sharing his time and talents with kids and their parents in the form of "Lunch Doodles" episodes that last anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes. Learn more.

Calling all intergenerational practitioners!
Generations United's colleagues in Japan are conducting a survey of intergenerational programs in the US, and we need your help. The research aims to identify the practices of intergenerational programs in the US and Japan to develop a training program for Japanese professionals in the field of long-term care and community health. Please take 5-10 minutes to complete the survey, and thank you for helping to support quality intergenerational programming in Japan! Think Intergenerational - Funding Opportunities
Challenge America Grant.  The National Endowment for the Arts'  Challenge America program offers support of $10,000 to small and mid-sized organizations for projects that extend the reach of the arts to populations in communities that are under served. These include communities where opportunities to experience the arts are limited by geography, ethnicity, economics, or disability. Deadline: April 9, 2020.  Learn more

Grants in Education. The SEL in Action Awards, a partnership of the NoVo Foundation with Education First and Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, aims to seed projects that foster social and emotional competencies in students in grades pre-K-12. They offer grants of up to $7,000 for educator-led projects, and up to $25,000 for district-level projects. Deadline: April 10, 2020. Learn more

COVID-19 Fact Sheet for Grandfamilies and Multigenerational Families. People over the age of 60 and those with compromised immune systems are among the highest-risk populations COVID-19 is impacting. While grandparents are being advised to isolate themselves physically from grandchildren, it is nearly impossible for older caregivers to distance themselves from the children they are raising. Our fact sheet offers few suggestions on how to stay healthy, informed and connected. Learn more.

New Interactive Toolkit: Connecting Generations in Senior Housing. This toolkit, developed by Generations United and the LeadingAge LTSS Center @UMass Boston with funding from RRF Foundation for Aging, is now a website with downloadable resources. It was designed specifically to help senior housing organizations plan and implement high-quality intergenerational programs that will benefit residents and young people in their communities. New Survey on Feeding Infants.  Generations United, in partnership with the Infant Nutrition Council of America (INCA) , evaluated results from a recent INCA survey to understand what grandfamilies need to know about feeding infants in their care.  Learn more .

A Place to Call Home: Building Affordable Housing for Grandfamilies.   This sixth edition of the annual State of Grandfamilies in America report detailed the housing challenges these families face and highlighted innovative programs that offer potential for nationwide expansion. Learn more.
