ERICH ADICKES, CHRIS HANNAUER
KATHY ROBINSON
For many years this church held a "Poetry of Winter" service in early January. This year we are turning that upside down and exploring poetry as a summer activity. Please join us, as members and friends of UUCUC share the "poetry of summer," poems that invoke the season for us, even if they aren't explicitly about long sunny days or walks along a beach.
We are still looking for poems and readers, so if you have a poem you'd like to be included, please contact Kathy Robinson (
krobdzyns@gmail.com
) by THIS Sunday, July 26th.

UUCUC'S "BUDDY SYSTEM"
Staying connected while
UUCUC facilities are closed
During this time of social distancing, staying in touch and checking in with each other is going to be very important. We hope you will consider being part of our "Buddy System" so we can care for one another.
You can sign up here:
https://uucuc.breezechms.com/form/2184f1. Buddies will check in with each other regularly by phone to provide connection, companionship, and connections to help if needed. This is a great way to help each other.

From Gail Cohen:
Sending many prayers to Ruth Bader Ginsberg. May she face her current cancer battle as courageously as she has in the past knowing how many people are holding her in their hearts.
From Ali Newbold:
This week I’ve been thrilled to have my daughter Gina with me as she filled in for - (ie, gave a weeks break to) - a very overworked Prof here at the vet school. It’ll be a challenge for me to adjust, as She’s heading back to Columbus early Saturday. For This week has felt like a real vacation for me!
From Karla Peterson:
Awhile back I reported that a great nephew (Alden - age 14) was having a heart transplant. Thankfully the transplant was successful, and after about 2 months of hospitalization-ICU-away from home, he is recovered and family is all back home in Sacramento, CA.

UUCUC Social Action Offering.
Each month a selected organization is chosen to receive offerings from our congregation. You may donate to the social action offering for the month in one of the following ways:
|
|
During the month of July, we will support the
Wesley Food Pantry. In the fall of 2006, the Eastern Illinois Foodbank informed church members of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Urbana that there was an urgent need for a food pantry in Champaign County that offered emergency food during evening hours. In response to this need, three church members started the Wesley Evening Food Pantry that November. The very first food distribution served one family of five. Almost 15 years later, Wesley Food Pantry provides food to an average of 1600 people every month with weekly distributions at the Wesley UMC and satellite locations at Parkland College and the University of Illinois Activities and Recreation Center (ARC).

RECENT SHARED OFFERINGS
During the month of June 2020,
Uniting Pride of Champaign County
was selected to be the shared offering. The UUCUC congregation contributed a total of $2,085 that month!
Uniting Pride (UP) was founded in 2009 as an organization to advocate for the equality, wellness, advocacy, and visibility of the LGBTQ+ communities in Champaign County. It is the only LGBTQ+ resource center in the greater east central Illinois region, so finds itself serving those beyond. UP does this through many support groups, community events, educational programming, guest speakers, referrals, and resources

Effective Monday, March 16, the UUCUC building closed as a preventative measure to minimize the spread of the COVID-19 virus in our community.. All upcoming scheduled meetings and events at UUCUC listed on
the calendar should be considered tentative. If you are planning on participating in a recurring meeting, please verify with the facilitator that the meeting or event is still scheduled to meet and is shifting to an online format. UUCUC leadership and staff are working to move all recurring meetings to an online format, but this may take some additional weeks. Stay tuned for more information!
At this time, we are strongly recommending that no groups meet in person.
