This past week, Chris Clapper and myself, sat around several tables with our peers at the WCCE Conference. Speeches were made, presentations clicked through and the classic buffet of cookies, granola bars and diet cokes were served. I walked out of Lambeau Field after 2.5 days, not with a cheese shaped head piece, but with an appreciation for two words.
Advocacy and Collaboration.
When talked about on the conference stage, these topics felt daunting. Words [like task force and public policy] were thrown out like candy at a parade. But unlike the thrilled recipient of a tossed snickers, I sat staring at hand-outs and scribbled notes thinking, how do we do this? To paint the full picture, we were in a room with chamber executives who have a staff directory that rivals a McDonald's menu. These chambers represent zip codes that house much larger populations. Let's be honest, they all have more than one zip code!
As one of the two staff members of the Elkhorn Chamber, I can truly say, I felt like the guppy in the fish bowl. But that was day one. By day two, we had sat around dinner tables and networking sessions and dug into conversations with other chamber leaders and the reality of our community efforts were beginning to shine through.

By day three, we could confidently tell our story regarding advocacy. Because truthfully, there is not a day that goes by without Chris, or myself, taking the time to educate, support or promote a business or organization that we partner with at the Elkhorn Chamber. The same is true for my five syllable friend, collaboration. One of our greatest strengths we possess is our ability to partner with group organizations who have a voice around diversity, family welfare, inclusion, education, and community impact. We are grateful that together we can build a stronger tomorrow. |

At first glance, it felt like we had to make a complete overhaul to our efforts and workday. But when we peeled back the layers and scaled the tasks to our community, we realized we were doing the right things. We're supporting the business community, we're advocating for others and we're strengthening relationships in and outside of our workplace. Don't worry, we did learn a few things and have launched conversations and have began navigating what these shared practices look like in the Elkhorn area. We are excited and looking forward to what's to come.
All this to say, when you hear people talking big, don't make yourself small. More than likely, you are doing more than you give yourself credit for. And if you're in need of a cheerleader, just call.

We are excited to welcome back the All Around Town Beer & Wine Tasting and this new footprint, will allow our Oktoberfest guests to enjoy their beverage of choice inside the establishment, and outside!

New Team, New Location
for United Way of Walworth County
|
The United Way of Walworth County began its fiscal year on August 1st with the appointment of a new Board of Directors, and the announcement of a new location.
“We are grateful for our years in Elkhorn, and excited for this new opportunity to
strengthen the collaboration of nonprofit agencies in Walworth County. This brings us a
giant leap closer to our goal of what we refer to as the One Mission Zone,” said Dunn,
adding, “in addition to two offices and plenty of storage, the campus provides ample
meeting space for events and presentations, and room to house additional nonprofits.”
The United Way will continue to serve all of Walworth County. Plans for a countywide
nonprofit event calendar, a resource library, and volunteer center are underway.
Currently office hours are by appointment, as they continue to develop the space. UWWC

October is Bullying Prevention Month and our school is contributing to the confidence and self-esteem needed for young people to take control of their emotions and actions to STOP and prevent bullying behavior, even before it starts.
