Marianela spoke about the impact the COVID-19 epidemic has had on our organization. We are all in this together and there are many ways to help.

PERINATAL SOCIAL WORKER'S
MONTHLY MEETING

March was Social Worker Appreciation Month!
Miracle Babies had the privilege of presenting and hosting breakfast at the San Diego Perinatal Social Worker's March Meeting. We gave the latest updates in Miracle Babies happenings and our new transportation program.
Miracle Babies relies on the support from hospital social workers to identify parents in need. Social workers are the unsung heroes of a NICU experience. They are an extraordinary asset to families with hospitalized newborns.

Thank you to all of the social workers for everything you do!
Since we are not allowed in to the NICU's at this time, we have had to get creative with ways to help our NICU families. The Orange County Chapter collected diapers and wipes for families in the NICU at UCI Medical Center. There has been a shortage of diapers and wipes making it difficult for parents to prepare for discharge home. A giant thank you to everyone who participated in the donation drive! We are all in this together.

Breakfast at Tiffany's
On March 3, 2020, the Miracle Circle celebrated “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” at La Valencia, raising over $50,000 to support Miracle Babies new transportation program.
Our friends at Oakwood Escrow produced this wonderful video of our Breakfast at Tiffany's event. Check it out!
OUR IMPACT
Miracle Babies had this impact in March 2020:

  • 30+ parents participated in 3 hosted “Miracle Hours”.  Before the "shelter in place order" due to COVID-19, parents enjoyed a meal, participated in crafts, and most importantly, escaped the isolation of the NICU – if only for any hour.

  •  100 care packages were delivered to 3 hospitals. Before the "shelter in place order" due to COVID-19, these packages were delivered to parents with babies in the NICU, regardless of need. These packages contain contents intended to support parents who spend considerable time in the NICU breastfeeding and providing “kangaroo care”.
If you are interested in volunteering or making an in-kind donation, please contact i nfo@miraclebabies.org .
Thank you to the following Facebook friends who “hosted” Facebook fundraisers in March to raise money for Miracle Babies: Susan V Scott, Sylvia Dianne Adams, Sarah Garrett, Gizzelle Berlein, Kasey Hardin, Melanie Amber, Ileana Fickewirth, Sara Pischinger, Lauren Kristine Miglieri -we appreciate each one of you!

MIRACLE OF THE MONTH
Miracle Baby Eden
Meet Miracle Baby Eden! This little Miracle was born at 22 weeks and 5 days, weighing 1 pound and 9 ounces. Miracle Mom Kira's water broke at 20 weeks and her birth hospital does not attempt resuscitation until 23 weeks so she was encouraged to terminate her pregnancy. Kira refused and went on bed-rest at home. At 22 weeks and 5 days Eden was born she spent 246 days in the NICU. Kira reflects "Miracle Babies was a huge help financially. When I went to the office to pick up the check the staff was very friendly and eager to help in any way. On their office walls were many photos of families and previous NICU babies that are now grown and thriving. At the time, I was unsure my baby would survive and seeing these former NICU babies and their families gave me hope that my baby could make it too. I started to envision our future picture on that wall with our miracle baby." We are happy to report beating all odds this baby girl has now been home for over 6 weeks and is thriving!
