As we move through the next few weeks leading up to Thanksgiving, we always see some changes in our students.  Kind of like the weather, they are slow to warm up on chilly mornings, yet parts of their day are sunny.  Please help them stay focused as we begin the holiday season by monitoring their assignment completion and reinforcing the importance of studying for tests.  All students will have our first set of Interim Assessments during the week of November 12-15.  These are cumulative tests to determine student progress in each of their core subjects through this point in the year.  Students will have Math on Nov. 12, Social Studies on Nov. 13, Science on Nov. 14, and Language Arts on Nov. 15.  It's important for students to complete the review packets and/or study guides that teachers will provide leading up to these assessments.  Finally, these Interim Assessments will serve as a formal grade in each content area so it's important for them to do their best to maintain solid grades as we move through second quarter.

Our annual Veteran's Day Program will be held tomorrow morning at 9:30 am in the gym.  We want to personally invite any parents, grandparents, friends, neighbors, or anyone else who has served in the armed forces to come out on Friday to celebrate their service to our country.  Our students and staff to have once again planned a great show to honor those we have lost, as well as, members of our armed forces who are with us today.

National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) applications are due this Friday, November 8.  Students should turn-in their completed packets to Mrs. Schneider in the Media Center no later than 4:00 pm.  Please remind students that they must have their essay and all other parts fully completed to ensure that they can receive maximum points on the rubric in order to be considered NJHS membership.

Finally, the Bailey Singers will perform at the AMG Heritage Awards Show on Saturday, November 9 at Ovens Auditorium.  This is a red carpet event where our students will sing on stage with a famous music icon in front of millions on TV...no pressure  !  Congrats to Mrs. Coldiron and the Bailey Singers for being selected to be part of this event.  In addition, our Performing Band Students were selected to do a show at the North Carolina Music Educators Conference in Winston Salem on Veteran's Day at 5:00 pm.  This is a great honor, as Bailey was the only middle school in North Carolina to be selected to perform.  HUGE KUDOS to Mrs. Petersen and our Performing Band Students for representing our school at such a prestigious conference.

Create a Great Day,

Leadership Can Opener Collection

The Leadership Ambassadors will be collecting can openers the week of November 4th through the 8th. This collection is for CMS' McKinney Vento program which is a program that helps homeless students stay at the school they attend. The homeless are often given canned good items, but rarely have can openers to open them. Hopefully we can change that!
Please consider sending in can openers with your student and ask them to look for a collection box around the school.

Bailey Performance Thank You

Mrs. Riley, Ms. Klingman, & Ms. Weir would like to express their gratitude to their 8th Grade Honors Drama, Performance Dance, & Scenery Club students for putting on a wonderful and meaningful performance of "Sarah's Journal", written by CMS Drama Teacher, Terry Gabbard.  The performance touched on the important topics of bullying, mental health, and suicide prevention.

We would like to extend an additional thank you to the 6th, 7th, & 8th Grade Classes for being an attentive audience, and for all of the student body who made "Dough"nations for Doughnuts!  We will be presenting a check for $600 to Davidson Lifeline so their work can continue in helping local children and teens with mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
