President's Message
Craig Felton
2019 CTGCSA President

With half of our scheduled events behind us in 2019, I want to thank our gracious Sponsors for their generosity and support.
We are blessed to have their support day in and day out to help our association continue to grow and prosper.

Congratulations to Reagan Olson for winning the championship flight of the CTGCSA Chapter Championship. Ryan Olson took the win in the first flight and Matt Cowan in the affiliate flight. A BIG thank you to Michael Thomas and The Bandit for hosting this great event and Link Windham and Simplot for sponsoring the event and providing an educational update on nematode control and management.

Rounds for Research was a tremendous success this year with over $20,000
raised in Texas. A sincere THANK YOU for those who donated rounds of golf to
this great cause.

The Inaugural CTGCSA Founders Cup is well under way with 2nd round matches having to be completed by July 19th. At this point, for some of us it's PLAY HARD AND WIN OR GO HOME!!!!

The 2019 Legacy Scholarship applications are now being accepted until September 15, 2019. Details are available on the website.

Our 2019 Membership hard cover directory is in the final stages of production and will be available soon. Please take a minute to verify your contact information is correct on the website membership directory.

Last but not least let's continue to support both Cash Lane and Dennis Rollins in a time of need. Although both have improving situations, the road is long. Please take a minute and donate online what you can.........every dollar counts!!

Event Wrap Ups

The 2019 McClure Matches were held at Landa Park Golf Course in New Braunfels
in April. Our host Brody Dillard provided a great battlefield for these hotly-contested
matches honoring CTGCSA legendary member Ted McClure.

Burger's Bushwood Boys blasted the Snyman Weapons of Grass Destruction team
by a final score of 15.5 to 11.5. There are a lot of great matches and fun had by all.

Thanks again to the team at Landa Park and all the sponsors who made it a great day.
And thank you Ted McClure for participating in the event and allowing us to honor
the work that you've done for the chapter and the industry for many years.
We look forward to the 2020 version!

Host Superintendent Brody Dillard (right) and his staff provided a great venue for the
2019 McClure Matches. Thank you Brody and the entire Landa Park staff.

Prior to the golf event there was a really great Round Table discussion on Poa Annua.
Experts Dr. Becky Grubbs, Dr. Muthu Bagavathiannan, Jim Garrett, Bart Fox,
Bob Ducote  and Raymond Miller teamed up to provide some great information pertaining
to the
control and resistance characteristics of this prevalent pest in Central Texas.
Many commented on how good the program was and helpful to their operation.

Lucky winner Ken Gorzycki CGCS was the winner of the
50/50 Scholarship Fundraiser pot.

Thanks to all who participated to make it a special day.
And a special thanks to our great sponsor AmeriTurf for their continued
support and participation. We couldn't do it without you!

Rounds 4 Research auction raises $364,000 for turfgrass studies

National program has raised more than $1 million since 2012.

The 2019 Rounds 4 Research fundraising program to support turfgrass studies, administered by the Environmental Institute for Golf (EIFG), sold 1,465 rounds of golf and yielded nearly $364,000 in its May online auction, making it the most successful in the program's history and an increase of $51,000 over 2018. The EIFG is the philanthropic organization of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA).

The Carolinas Golf Course Superintendents Association raised $61,000 and was the leader among more than 70 GCSAA affiliated chapters and turfgrass organizations that received proceeds from the auction to support turfgrass research at the local level. The Florida GCSA was next with nearly $40,000 raised for its chapter.  The top bid was $4,750 for a round of golf for four donated by Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas.

"Rounds 4 Research continues to grow every year, and that is thanks to generous donors and bidders who care about supporting the game they love," said Rhett Evans, GCSAA chief executive officer. "It is wonderful to see all aspects of the game come together to ensure its future."
The national campaign is supported by a $50,000 donation from The Toro Co. The Golf Channel, Golf Advisor and GolfNow provided promotional support. More than 70 golf course management companies donated more than 400 rounds to the auction, including American Golf, Billy Casper Golf, ClubCorp, CourseCo, Founders Group International, Marriott Golf, the PGA Tour TPC Network and Troon Golf. The program has raised nearly $1.5 million since launching in 2012.
