Do you know of a group that is curious about climate change?
We could use your help to find groups of people who want to learn more about climate change.
The latest report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change  (IPCC) released on August 6, 2021, has re-emphasized the necessity of rapid measures to avoid the worst effects of climate change.  By now, the majority of people agree that our climate is changing, but they may not be sure about the cause, or know what can be done to minimize the effects.

That's where our Speakers Bureau comes in.

The role of the Speakers Bureau in the Silicon Valley Chapter of CRP is to educate the public about these issues and to promote discussion that will, hopefully, lead to political action and the adoption of appropriate policies and legislation.

But we need your help to find groups.

We all belong to groups that might like to learn more about the cause of climate change, its effects, and solutions.  This email is to ask you to approach the leaders and organizers of any groups that you belong to, or even just know of, and to ask them if they would host a presentation and/or discussion of climate issues.

There are many possible groups to choose from:
  • community groups, such as Homeowners’ Associations
  • your coworkers and your employer
  • adult education (in your local library)
  • religious organizations
  • social clubs, gyms, bridge clubs, mah-jongg clubs, …
  • political groups (e.g., the League of Women voters)
  • other activist organizations
  • your own circle of friends, teammates, work-out buddies …
  • your extended family
  • and more....(put on your thinking caps, here!)

You don't need to present, just help us book the presentation.

We are not asking that you give a talk yourself, nor lead a discussion, although you can if you wish, and the Speakers’ Bureau (SB) will help you prepare.

There are two options for how you can help us.

ONE:
Contact an organization you are familiar with, identify their interest and then select a suitable date, time, and duration. Then, let the Speakers Bureau know and we will assign a speaker or discussion leader.

TWO:
Identify an organization and send the Speaker's Bureau the name of the group along with contact information and we will do the rest.
We have NEW presentations that make our message relevant to a wide range of audiences.
To provide messages that engage a wide range of audiences, we have expanded the range of presentation topics we offer. Here's a list of what we offer:

  • overview of the cause, effects, and solutions
  • financial aspects and economics of damage vs. solutions
  • the technology behind the solutions
  • personal actions at home and in your community
  • particular industry (energy generation and distribution, transportation, agriculture)
  • the science (and history) of climate change
  • how do we know it is us?
  • customized presentations - if your group is interested in something that is not on this list, let us know and we will do our best to find a presenter and tailor a presentation to meet their needs.
We hope you can help us get the word out about climate change action!
The need for urgent action is clear.  Please play your part in raising awareness of the necessity and possibilities for a rapid, just transition from fossil fuels to clean renewable energy and a healthier environment.
