Dr. Matt Zahn, MD Medical Director of the Communicable Disease Control Division at the Orange County Health Care and
Dr. Jasjit Singh, MD Pediatric Infectious Disease Specialist, CHOC Children’s.

April 22 nd  AAP OC Chapter meeting can be watched here .

Some key points: The real number of cases may be 80 fold the reported BUT still only 4 % of the public.
Currently we are all very susceptible to infection.
  • OC has done a GREAT job relative to the rest of CA at curbing our numbers. See image below on LA County numbers OR listen/read the meeting notes.
  • We are at the flat part of the curve and will be here for months to come.
  • Vaccine will be available only in 12-18 mos
  • Testing is still substandard in many ways and should be improving as months unfold.
  • CHOC in Orange has NO in patients admitted with COVID19. CHOC Mission had 2. (Different numbers than what was reported earlier but still consistent with the fact that children are not largely carrying the infection or contracting it).
While there is much anticipation for the availability of SARS-CoV-2 antibody tests, this article explains why it took "several years to develop antibody tests for HIV with more than 99% specificity" and how we are still searching for the the specific antibodies that confer immunity.
"With available information and recommendations changing rapidly, it is critical that members of the public who are subject to following public health orders and recommendations understand the technical differences between various terms, including “cloth face covering”, “surgical mask” or “medical mask”, and “respirator” as well as the type and level of protection each provides. These terms are often incorrectly used interchangeably. As such, FACS has compiled some definitions here"
