A Note from SWA
♬ Walking you through a waste wonderland ♬
The holidays are nearly here, and with them gifts, good times and… Garbage! Here is everything you need to know about your recycling opportunities and weird winter wastes.
Under the new collection service contract using standardized garbage carts, garbage will be collected outside of the cart from Dec. 26 through Jan. 1. Residents still should place all debris normally collected on these days curbside by 6 a.m.
Happy Holidays from SWA

During the 2020/2021 season, we continue to make adjustments consistent with the guidelines set forth by the Club and POA. Knowing that all of the agencies and programs we support within the community need us now more than ever, we have been developing new and creative ways to continue supporting the individuals served through these organizations.
Christmas Angel Tree Program – THANK YOU!!!
JL Cares’ Angel Tree is a blessing for all involved, and the Children at the Edna Runner Tutorial Center and seniors at The Courtyard Gardens Rehabilitation Center need us this year more than ever. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, The Angel Tree Program had a new look. We did not place ‘wish’ tags on the traditional ‘Angel Tree’ and, unfortunately, we are not able to host the Angel Tree Gift Exchange and Reception! As with the Thanksgiving Basket Program, in order to keep everyone as safe as possible, we offered several options for members of the JL community to participate, including a personal check or a charge to your JL Golf Club account.
Again, the response from the JL Community has been nothing less than extraordinary: to date we have raised over $20,000 in gifts! 100% of the proceeds will be distributed directly to purchase gifts and grant wishes for the children at The Edna Runner Tutorial Center and the seniors at The Courtyard Gardens Rehabilitation Center.
The JL Cares Board sincerely appreciates your patience and understanding of the necessary changes to the Christmas Angel Tree events as well as all of the other important JL Cares programs that you so generously support -- you truly make a meaningful difference in the lives of so many throughout our local community.
Thank you and our warmest wishes to you and your families for a safe, healthy and very Happy Holiday Season!

Holiday Fun
in West Palm Beach
Looking to boost your holiday spirit?
Well you’re in luck. A short trip to West Palm Beach’s Clematis Street will bring you to the “Holiday in Paradise” themed shows, from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM every night through December 30th, and from 6:00 PM to midnight December 31st.
You’ll enjoy the music and light show of the newly upgraded Centennial Fountain, now with more light and color, and a visit with the stunning “Sandi,” a 700-ton sand sculpture with its own impressive lighting. The new Clematis streetscape project has created wider sidewalks, which allow for easier social distancing. Don't forget to wear your face mask.
Happy Holidays in Paradise!

Zoom Call Tips
Since we’re all spending more time on Zoom calls, here are a few basic pointers on how to put our best face forward.
- Choose a room with good lighting. Facing a window that lets in natural lighting is a great way to make yourself more visible.
- A room where you can shut the door is an ideal space.
- Place your computer or laptop screen at the appropriate distance from you, and 4 to 6 inches up from the table surface. This will enable people to see your face clearly.
- Mute yourself if you are not speaking.
- Please silence your phone if you are not muted.
Have Fun and Happy Zooming.

Importance of Florida’s Coral Reefs
A report was released by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the University of Maryland on the health of coral reefs under U.S. jurisdiction. The health of reefs was classified from “very good,” “good,” “fair,” “impaired,” to “critical.”
Coral reefs are not only an important component of the marine ecosystem, they’re also vital to coastal economies that depend on tourism, such as South Florida. While the report rated most coral regions as “fair,” it noted that the threat caused by sewage, lawn chemicals, and other pollutants is most pronounced in the waters off South Florida. With a population of over 9 million, the region is one of the country’s densest population centers located in close proximity to coral reefs.
If you’re interested in viewing the National Coral Reef Status Report, here is the link to the NOAA.
