Relay For Life 2020
Dear Relay For Life Supporters,

Covid19

At this moment in time, it is too early for us to determine whether the physical 24-hour event on May 15-16 will be affected. We are following the World Health Organisation and local Bermuda Government guidance on best practices and our priority is to act in the best interest of the public and everyone involved in this amazing movement, which includes you.

The magnitude of this event means that we cannot merely reschedule it, if in May it is deemed unsafe to host large gatherings.

However, the $700,000 you raise each year for Relay For Life is vital to our Centre's ability to assist those who cannot afford our services.

The majority of us do not have a rainy day fund of $100,000+ just in case we need cancer treatment. In 2018 $1.3 million of fundraising dollars was used to provide 84 patients with radiation therapy. Many of these patients would likely not have been able to afford this potentially life-saving treatment. $543,604 assisting those whose health insurance did not cover 100% of the cost and $487,014 supporting those without health insurance.

As many of you know, Relay For Life is more than just a 24 hour event, it is a year-long movement. So we ask you not to waiver in your support, your $10 registration fees and the funds you raise are still needed!

Sincerely,

Your Relay For Life of Bermuda Volunt eer Event Committee

Luminaria paper bags supporting a light are a Relay For Life tradition. The Luminaria Ceremony is a time to remember people we have lost to cancer, to support people who currently have cancer, and to honor people who have fought cancer in the past and caregivers past and present. The power of this ceremony lies in providing an opportunity for people to work through grief and find hope.
