The September birthstone, Sapphire, was once thought to guard against evil and poisoning. It was believed that a venomous snake would die if placed in a vessel made of sapphire. Sapphires are a form of corundum, the second hardest mineral. Commonly ranging in color from light to dark blue, they are found chiefly in placer deposits. A sapphire may also form in a rainbow of other colors, but red-hued corundum is known as the ruby. In the 17th century, holding or wearing he sapphire was believed to help you to foretell the future. Sapphires are thought to ease pain and reduce stress. If you dream that you are wearing a sapphire, be warned... you should be less impulsive.
