Dear St. Giles Families,

Thank you to all of our families who submitted questions regarding the reopening of school in August. We have compiled an FAQ for you to review and if you have additional questions, you may submit them via the same form. We are receiving updates from the Archdiocese regularly and will keep you informed as more information becomes available. FAQ's will be updated weekly as additional questions are received and plans are finalized.

Our Health/Safety Committee is working diligently to go through all of the protocols from the Archdiocese in each of our buildings to ensure that we are meeting the necessary requirements for reopening and providing a safe environment for our faculty, staff and students. There is a lot of work to be done but we have been working all summer on preliminary plans and have much of it in place already. We are in great shape for an August 19 opening. Additionally, our Academics Committee is working to review our curriculum maps and align them with the Archdiocese priority standards for a successful academic opening.

Mrs. Lechowicz is preparing a survey for parents to gauge the social emotional needs of our students as they prepare to come back to school after such a lengthy absence from their friends and teachers. Additionally, we will focus on these needs as we reopen to reassure students that they are safe and help them become more comfortable, especially while wearing masks.

There are many things you can do at home to help your child and family prepare for our reopening. Please begin preparing students now for wearing masks for longer periods of time. For example, have children wear masks during a movie night or while out for a walk, etc. The more they begin to wear them for longer periods of time, the more comfortable they will become with masks and other COVID protocols.

In addition, it is our expectation that all families are adhering to recommended guidance at home. Please be mindful of the guidelines from the IDPH and the state regarding masks, maintaining safe physical distancing, and avoiding large gatherings. We are doing everything in our power to create a safe environment inside the school walls, but we need all families to take the necessary precautions at home to keep everyone safe. A successful reopening requires a commitment between family and school to adhere to all health and safety protocols and recommendations.

Lastly, our school at-a-glance calendar can be found here . This outlines days off and major holidays. Our website will be the main source of activities throughout the year and we encourage everyone to review it regularly.

Thank you for your patience--we will continue to share information as it becomes available!

Stay well!
Meg

Planning is currently underway for the 2020-21 year. Many of our PTO initiatives will look different this year - we need committed parents to keep our community strong and vibrant!

If you are interested in serving on the PTO board or as a committee chair, please contact  Kristen Reale  or  Laura Milder  to learn about open positions.

We want to keep up with all of our Lions this summer! If your son or daughter are ever sporting Giles spirit wear while having fun this summer, or taking part in any of our enrichment activities, please share a snap with us at  [email protected] . We'd love to see what our students are up to -- and feature them on our social media pages.
