North Hills School District
Pride • Tradition • Excellence
Dear North Hills families, staff and members of the community,

We continue to monitor the COVID19 pandemic as it pertains to the North Hills School District, our students, staff and community members.

Schools are not required to meet the minimum 180-day/hours (990/900/450) per year requirements but have been strongly encouraged to build plans to continue to educate students with the resources available in their community. These resources include Flexible Instructional Days (FIDs), and online and digital learning opportunities.

As such, we are announcing today that our schools will remain closed through Easter Monday, April 13, with the hope we can return to a regular classroom environment on Tuesday, April 14.

We will continue with the plan we have laid out through next Friday, March 27 with FID 4 on Tuesday, March 24, and FID 5 on Thursday, March 26.

We will be closed on Monday, March 30 and Tuesday, March 31 to allow our teachers time to prepare for virtual instruction which will begin on Wednesday, April 1.

Our teachers will utilize Google Classroom, Zoom and other available tools and resources to the best of their ability to prepare our students for their next educational opportunity -- whether that be the next grade level for our K-11 students or life after high school for our seniors.

Virtual instruction days will take place on April 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8 and 9. We will be closed Good Friday, April 10, and Easter Monday, April 13, with the hope of returning to a regular classroom environment on Tuesday, April 14.

Complete details about what our virtual instruction will look like for each student in each grade level will be communicated next week. We know this is a challenging time for families and we want to assure you that we are aware that many parents are also trying to balance the new reality of working from home. We are doing our best to continue to provide the best possible education for our students given the circumstances. However, please know that we understand and are sympathetic to the challenges we are all facing at home.

We have also begun to formulate a plan to get an iPad or a laptop into the hands of students without a district-issued iPad (Grades K-4, 12). Please look for additional communications about this next week.

In addition, Comcast is offering free internet for 60 days to families who cannot afford it. Complete details can be found here.

Our Breakfast and Lunch program will continue for our free and reduced students during the closure. Pickup is from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at West View Elementary School. Additional provisions will be distributed on April 9 to provide enough food for the long Easter weekend as there will be no distribution on April 10 and April 13.

Please know that the plan laid out today may need to be altered again. If we cannot return to the school on April 14, we will continue to provide education to our students using the above measures through our last scheduled day of school which will remain Friday, May 29

As always, we thank you for your continued support, patience and understanding in this undoubtedly scary and unprecedented time.

Stay safe, North Hills!
