Pique, Ten at the Top’s Annual Young Professional Event, was shifted to a livestream event this year with Sallie Holder, author of “Hitting Rock Middle: When Success Doesn’t Feel Like Success,” presenting tactical steps and tools to break through “rock middle” and create our greatest potential careers. Jason Weidman from Presenting Sponsor ScanSource and Pique Committee co-chair, acted as master of ceremonies and moderator.
The audience had a chance to chat with Sallie and ask questions to gain clarity on their own career growth challenges.

Ten at the Top hosted several virtual workshops in September. Below are summaries from those sessions. You can also watch the videos on the TATT YouTube Channel.
September 9 - How to Talk about Finances: Conversations with Lenders and Investors
Earl Gregorich of the SC SBDC acted as moderator for a panel of Upstate lenders including J. Connally Bradley of the Appalachian Development Corporation, Paul Clark from VentureSouth, Matthew Cloutier from Countybank, and Scott Whelchel of the Carolina Foothills Federal Credit Union.
The group shared key points on how to build and maintain relationships with lenders and investors that will improve a company’s sustainability and profitability.

September 14 - Strengthening the Financial Literacy of Your Entrepreneur Clients
Earl Gregorich of the SC SBDC shared action steps with entrepreneur service providers to assist them in communicating the importance of and how to maintain accurate, up-to-date financial statements with entrepreneurs and small businesses.

September 23 - How to Talk About Sales - Conversations with Potential Clients
Larry Block from SCORE presented, “Selling to Meet Needs vs. Presentation Selling,” teaching attendees how to find prospects, match them with benefits, close sales, and deal with objections. Watch a recording of the event here.
September 29 - Beyond the Shield - Use of Technology in Law Enforcement
The second session in the Beyond the Shield series of community discussions around law enforcement issues focused on the use of technology by law enforcement.
The law enforcement panel included Chief Jorge Campos from the Clemson Police Department, Captain Fred Forman from the Simpsonville Police Department, and Chief Matt Hamby from the Greer Police Department.
Chief Hamby introduced body worn cameras (BWCs) and the evolution of BWC technology. Chief Campos discussed accountability, standards and guidelines, the use of BWCs to in court cases, automation to increase usability and accuracy, privacy issues, and limitations of the technology. Captain Forman discussed the Simpsonville department’s use of license plate readers (LPRs) to solve crimes quickly in an objective and unbiased manner while saving taxpayer dollars.
Community leaders who participated in this session were Yvonne Reeder and Corey McDowell.
This workshop was highly informative about what technology law enforcement is using, how it works, how it is being used and how it is not being used, and methods utilized to maintain the safety and privacy of Upstate citizens.

While we have not been able to connect in-person as much over the last year as we would like, TATT is still making sure we can stay connected virtually through our regular TATT CHAT.
Be sure and join us every-other-Thursday as we discuss key issues with leaders from across the region and state. The pre-event networking starts at 2:40 pm and the TATT CHAT starts at 3 pm. In addition to our keynote speaker, we also receive updates from organizations and communities across the region.

In partnership with the South Carolina Small Business Development Center, Piedmont SCORE and CommunityWork's Women's Business Center, the Upstate Entrepreneur Ecosystem will be hosting a pair of free virtual workshops in October.
In addition, you can learn about entrepreneur efforts in Greer on October 12 during a special session with the The Platform at Greer, an initiative of the Greer Development Corporation.

We are pleased to welcome Lena Dunham as the newest member of the Ten at the Top team. Lena started as a part-time administrative assistant for Ten at the Top on September 13. Lena is a native of Greenville and has worked as a media buyer, administrative and development coordinator, and is currently also a realtor.
In her new role, Lena will assist with TATT’s events, programs, initiatives, and coordination of the Upstate Vibe calendar and elevation of the calendar’s social presence.
