"Meme, could you please pray for me", she whispered. My granddaughter could not speak or even swallow because she was dealing with an infection in her tonsils and throat. She continued to say, "I believe in supernatural healing and the Bible says to call for the 'elderly' to anoint you with oil. (I chuckled inside as I knew she was referring to James 5:14, "Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.") Since I was the 'elderly' and her faith was so strong! I anointed her with oil, and the large swollen glands which resembled mumps went down in her neck! We commanded the infection to leave her body in the name of Jesus and it went! We did the same for her tonsils also. Within a couple of days and additional prayer, she was eating and swallowing fine!
I marvel at our wonderful Lord! He is so intent on helping us that even if we don't get all our words right, He honors our heart and for that which we are believing! God did not put the sickness on her, but He sure did receive the praise and glory for healing her!
Martha and Mary had a brother named Lazarus who got sick and died. The girls could not understand why Jesus did not come immediately when they called for him. "Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died." (John 11:21) Then before Jesus raised him from the dead, He gave us a powerful key that my granddaughter used, "Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?" We just need to believe what He says! We need to move away from "why did this happen to me?" or putting the blame on others, "God, if you would have been here (or done such and such)"!
God is God and sees the beginning to the end. We can trust Him! Jesus did not go until He got the direction from the Father to go. It seemed too late, but it was the right time for what God wanted to do. In John the Baptist's case, John's assignment was over, and Jesus did not bring him back.
I believe that was what Jesus was teaching Martha and Mary when He went to Martha's home for dinner. Full surrender! Earlier He taught Martha how to stay in peace and not let anxiety overpower her. Mary chose peace in the situation over being troubled by so much. Jesus was not saying sitting was better than serving. He was saying that Mary chose the "good part" and that it would not be taken from her. (Luke 10:38-42) "Good part" can be translated "excelling in any respect, distinguished, good." Anxiety will rob us of excelling in every respect!
When we "believe" we trust Him with everything! If we are trusting Him, we will not be anxious! His "shalom" is more than peace, it's a place of power knowing He is greater!
If you are sick, call for the 'elderly' (if they are anointed and flowing in faith, no matter what age they are)! But most of all don't become overwhelmed with life and its daily troubles! We seek Him first and His righteousness (or "right way" of doing things) and everything else will fall into place! (Matt 6:33)
Last week we studied the life of Martha! I gave some powerful insights from which you can glean that most likely you have not heard before! (Go to on my Facebook page under CarolMarie Smith that is open to the public). Look for Tuesday, October 29, 2019, for that teaching. This week I will teach on her sister, Mary, and her life. Together they are a power team that we can learn from! (Notes from these lessons can be found on www.drcarolmarie.com under blog.) Then call for the "elderly"!
