Civic Engagement

The Civic Engagement table is on a break this week. 
Even though the U.S. Senate is on break too, we encourage you to take a minute when you are newly outraged about the news to make a call or fire off an email to Senators Sinema and McSally. No action on gun control?! Or Anti-asylum bill S. 1494, which Senator McSally cosponsored? ! It takes a flood of feedback for these decision-makers to get the message -- throw your cupful in whenever you can.

Earth Justice Ministry/ Green Sanctuary

Earth Justice Ministry- will meet this Sunday, August 11th  after the service at 12 noon in Annex G.  Refreshments will be served and guests are welcome.  We will be mainly be planning for next Sunday’s Justice Lunch Talk about Cooperative Businesses as a grass roots alternative to corporate greed, with Nigel Forest from ASU. A light lunch will be served.
Green Tip - Replace your thermostat with a "smart" thermostat -- you may also be eligible for a bill credit or rebate on your electrical bill. 
Blue Tip - Capture rainwater from your roof and use it to water plants.

Experience the Sacred Harp, a unique American singing tradition! UUCP is pleased to host Phoenix Fasola, who welcomes newcomers, beginners, and listeners to join them. Sacred Harp, also known as "shape-note," is a participatory style in which singers sit in a square facing in. The music itself has roots in 18th-century U.S. Protestantism, but singers of many backgrounds and beliefs find Sacred Harp to be a spiritual experience. More information at  https://fasola.org/

Be A Greeter
This is a chance to meet members and visitors in the lobby on Sunday mornings. It only takes 45 minutes before service for you to participate in this important ministry. And it is easy! Just smile, answer questions and you will be trained to handle anything you don’t already know. Two services each Sunday is set to begin September 15 so the need for greeters doubles! Booker T. Washington Child Development Center
Attention Golfers:
We have a great opportunity to further our long history of support for BTW at their First Annual “Par for Preschool” charity Golf Tournament honoring founder, Calvin C. Goode. The tournament is on Saturday, September 14, at the renowned Arizona Grand Golf Course. There will be prizes, raffles and drawings in addition to lunch and a terrific day of golf. The Academic and Leadership Accelerator for Service (ALAS) is a nonprofit organization with the mission to prepare first and second generation students with the college knowledge, life skills, and social consciousness to create change in their communities. We hope that UUCP’s donation will cover the cost of all the materials necessary to host our 2019-2020 program. Notebooks, binders, markers, pens, name-tags, poster boards, and snacks will equip our students to be successful during the program.
BLUU Worship Service Watch

Are you a Black Unitarian Universalist feeling in need of connection with other Black UU’s?? We invite Black Unitarian Universalists and all Black people to join us for online worship. BLUU worship is built specifically for black UU’s as a Sacred Black Space. This is an opportunity for black UU’s to come worship together with one another. It is a smaller more intimate gathering. Construction Update
The back hallway entrance is closed for construction, so if you park on 40th Place or in the Christ Church back lot, you can get to our main building via the gently sloped desert from the south of our buildings, or walk down 40th Place to Lincoln Drive and then use the sidewalk to get to our main parking lot. While the upper parking lot is CLOSED, the accessible entrance is the ramped south door that you get to via the path on the left (south) side of the building from the main parking lot.
