Volunteers Needed for 2020 Meeting
|
Planning is underway for the 2020 TCC Annual Meeting and Leslie Bouterie has generously offered to lead the effort again as Chair of the Annual Meeting Committee. Organizing the meeting involves too many tasks for one or two people to handle and additional volunteers are essential for the meeting to take place.
Volunteers are needed to be responsible for Logistics, Programming, Promotion, Administration, the Transferware Sale, and the Raffle. Several people expressed interest during the recent meeting in Birmingham, but several more are needed. If you have interest in learning more about the available positions, please contact TCC president Scott Hanson at
[email protected]. Thank you!

News of Dick Henrywood's Transferware Recorder News 21
|
November 2019
We are back on schedule for the beginning of November and this issue of the
Recorder News brings some tasty titbits. A thought about politics, an unusual small container, two new Shakespeare patterns, our normal interesting mark, and a particularly notable pattern variation.

Tile Display of the Month - Examples from the TCC Database
|
Trellis Aesthetic Floral Pattern #18812 Maker Unknown
The tile is 6 x 6 inches, and printed in brown.
The pattern has a TCC Assigned Name
The pattern features flowers and plants that seem almost alive. The leaves, vines and tentacle-like extensions are winding around to reach outside of the trellis border. This is a tile pattern that begs for more to surround it on all sides in order to connect the extensions and thus complete the pattern.

The Seven Sisters (corrected)
We provided in last month's Photo of the Month an image of J. & G. Meakin, Eastwood Works' "Seven Sisters". Thanks to Terry Woolliscroft for noting that the image is probably of a different pottery, and for providing the image of the actual sisters (although only six are visible in the image). More great views of The Potteries on Terry's blog The Potteries Bottle Oven

Henrywood's Highlights an Ongoing Series
|
Highlight Number Thirty-Seven
Everard, Colclough & Townsend
The little-known and short-lived firm of Everard, Colclough & Townsend worked in Longton, probably from about 1840 through to the end of June 1845. At the time of writing, the TCC database has no records of any wares from the factory - possibly they had little trade with America - but they certainly made some distinctive transferware jugs. Enoch Wood's No. 106 Series Database Discoveries - Contribution # 9 Transferware Collectors Club February 2013
Enoch Wood's No.106 Series of European views was probably produced in the early to mid 1830s. Unlike many series of patterns dating from that time, it was not made in a variety of hues, but always in a very attractive two-color combination, a yellow printed border with contrasting floral sprays and central design in brown or black. Yellow, of course, is the rarest of transferware colors, and it follows that items in this series are also uncommon. At best the average collector might hope to encounter a stray plate here and there, often "Oberwessel on the Rhine". But a few years ago Judie Siddall was lucky enough to get pictures of a number of items from a complete dinner service. When the owner had bought the set she had no idea of its rarity or value, only that she liked it. She generously shared pictures of what she had, and those comprise the majority of the patterns represented in the database.
