580 Degrees and Certificates Awarded at Three Rivers Community College Commencement

Friends and families packed the campus green to cheer on the Three Rivers Community College graduates at the 53rd annual Commencement on May 23. 580 students earned a total of 543 associate degrees and 74 certificates. Eight students earned two degrees, 28 earned both a degree and certificates, and seven students earned a Medallion for Academic Excellence, which is achieved by maintaining a 4.0 grade point average.

On Thursday, May 24, Three Rivers Community College held the Fifty-First Nursing Pinning Ceremony. During the ceremony, 32 nursing students received their nursing pin, marking the completion of their nursing degree and serving as a symbol of their readiness to serve as compassionate professional caregivers.

Three Rivers is excited to announce their new Community College Tuition Match Scholarship Agreement with Charter Oak State College. This allows Charter Oak to provide the last two years of a bachelor's degree to graduates of associate degree programs at Three Rivers for the same cost of tuition and fee rates as Three Rivers. Not including fees, a three-credit course at Charter Oak would cost $894, but with the tuition match scholarship it will cost only $489, the Three Rivers rate. This agreement goes into effect for the Fall 2018 semester. 

On May 8, Holocaust survivor Henny Simon and longtime civil rights activist Jacqueline Owens were honored posthumously at the inaugural Henny Simon Remembrance event. "Parallel Lives - Bridging Communities" featured tributes to the two women, music, entertainment, youth speakers and refreshments. 

Manufacturing Pipeline to Receive  Additional Grant Monies

Governor Malloy announced an eight million dollar workforce investment by the State of Connecticut to continue Manufacturing Pipeline. In addition to the established programs, Three Rivers is also implementing a high school Intro to Manufacturing Program this summer for Norwich Free Academy. 

The National Society of Leadership and Success Induction Ceremony, held on May 10, was a very well attended event. Dean Finton provided an inspirational welcome, and Louise Summa delivered an exceptional and interactive keynote address. Approximately 50 students were inducted into the Society and seven received their National Engaged Leader Award.

On May 15, over 250 students collected their gowns and participated in games, enjoyed stuffed potatoes, ice cream, prizes, music, kettle corn, and fresh squeezed lemonade. Faculty and staff were encouraged to celebrate the students' success as well. It was a joyful send off to the 2017-2018 Academic Year.

The 4th Annual InFusion: Where Literary Art Transcends The Page featured New London Poet Laureate Rhonda Ward and special guests poet Kate Rushin and bassist Nat Reeves. They read and performed at Expressiones Cultural Center in New London on May 11. 

InFusion is a literary and performing art series that was founded and organized by Professor Frederick-Douglass Knowles II. This free event was presented by Three Rivers Community College Community Involvement & Support Committee, Three Rivers College Foundation and Expressiones Cultural Center.

Eighteen Three Rivers Community College students were inducted into Epsilon Pi Tau, an international honor society that recognizes high performing engineering technology students, during two ceremonies, the first held on May 4 at Manchester Community College and the second held on May 9 at Three Rivers.
