Dear Friends,

This Sunday is Family Worship! All ages and stages of our church family will gather together to worship God through joyful music, prayer, and the hearing and responding to God's word.

What a wonderful, holy gift we can be to each other as we gather in God's presence.

Children learn how to worship by participating in worship, being welcomed into the beloved community, and observing the caring adults around them turn to God for healing and forgiveness, and to offer thanks and praise.

And adults learn to worship by becoming like a child: open-hearted, teachable, dependent on and responsive to God's love.

The Singers and Ringers are preparing a musical offering, and our confirmation students will be sharing a creative retelling of our Scripture passage.

Come with an expectant heart!
Lindley Traynor

In Sunday worship this year, we're making our way through Brian McLaren's book,  "We Make the Road by Walking."  Organized into 4 parts around the theme of being "fully alive in Christ," this study will guide us for the next twelve months. The idea is that we are not finished yet. We are all "in the making." We are not merely passive observers of the history happening to us. We can be active protagonists in our own story. And notice - it is "we," not "I," that make the road. " We make the road by walking." It reminds us of that old adage, "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." That's the truth of the gospel - God calls us to be "fully alive in Christ" together , as a community, to "make the road by walking" together , not as self-sufficient lone-rangers doing their own thing. Join us for worship as we follow this path together! You can purchase a copy of the book in the church office or on your own.

Faith and Racial Equity: Exploring Power and Privilege  - join us for this 8-week JustFaith class to be held on Tuesday nights in the Lounge at fpcw, from 6:30-8 pm. Our Adult Faith Formation team is co-sponsoring this class with our friends from St. Francis Xavier. The class awakens groups to the economic systems, public policies, cultural norms, and hidden biases that empower some and oppress others. The class introduces a framework for understanding how power and privilege influences racial disparities. Most of all, we will explore how our faith informs our response to what we are learning, as well as have time to discern action steps for working toward racial equity in our community. To cover the class materials, we ask for a $50 registration fee. If that is a burden, please let us know and we will find a way to help. To sign up, contact Elder Irris Boaz) or Pastor Jeff.  Learn more at justfaith.org or by contacting our co-facilitators (members of St. Francis), Vic and Mary

Mission - Transform Lives

Homeless Chorus Speaks
Join us Sunday, October 27th for the compelling documentary about the homeless chorus in San Diego. The film depicts a critical and timely social issue: people living without support and shelter. This film puts a human face on a crucial societal problem and shows how easy someone can become homeless and living on the streets. The screening will take place after worship, followed by lunch and a discussion.  Click here  to view the trailer for "The Homeless Chorus Speaks."

Stock the Shelves provides what food stamps won't and stretched incomes can't cover by giving Chicago area refugees the household and hygiene supplies needed to lead thriving lives. Checkout the Stock the Shelves website www.stocktheshelves.org to learn how you can help support this important mission.
