43-Year Tweed Deal Wins Final Approval
Lauding the prospect of more jobs, fewer government subsidies, and an environmentally conscious approach to developing a larger airport, the Board of Alders Thursday night unanimously approved a new 43-year agreement between the city and Tweed’s airport authority.

Local legislators took that vote Thursday night during a regular bimonthly meeting of the full Board of Alders. The meeting took place in person in the Aldermanic Chambers on the second floor of City Hall.

After roughly 20 minutes of deliberations, during which several alders spoke about how “the pros outweigh the cons” when it comes to promoting a larger regional airport, the alders unanimously voted in support of a new amended and restated lease and operating agreement between the city and Tweed New Haven Airport Authority.

The 43-year deal that won final approval Thursday night is identical to the amended version that the Independent first reported on on Tuesday. Read More
Meet Greater New Haven’s promising tech companies
Welcome to New Haven Biz’s inaugural Tech 25 issue, where we’ve identified 25 tech companies to watch — either because they are making moves with new products, raising capital or have a promising technology or drug that could not only make lots of money but also potentially save lives and create new jobs.

We profile tech companies — many in the biotech space — in various stages of development. Some are just getting started with a promising new drug in the research-and-development stage. Others have established products and revenue streams and are growing.

The companies were chosen with the help of Connecticut Innovations, the state’s quasi-public venture investor, which has a stake in many of the firms on our list. Read More

South Central Connecticut Housing Plan Survey
The South Central Regional Council of Governments (SCRCOG), which brings together local governments to coordinate municipal services, transportation and land use planning programs for its 15 member municipalities is announcing the beginning of a housing survey for residents.

Why is SCRCOG doing the Survey?

This survey is part of SCRCOG’s efforts to help each municipality create housing plans in accordance with the State of Connecticut’s General Statutes Section 8-30j, which requires each municipality create and amend an affordable housing survey at least once every five years. This survey is intended to help identify the perceptions and realities of housing affordability, appropriateness, and challenges within each community.

The survey is being offered in two formats, online and as a paper version with options for English and Spanish. The survey will be open from September 14 to October 5, 2021. Read More

Paper surveys can be mailed to:
