AP TESTING UPDATE FROM THE COLLEGE BOARD
Dear Parents of students taking AP Exams:
Many students and parents have contacted me for clarifications on the AP testing process. I'm hoping this short re-cap will help to address some of your questions. As I receive more information from the College Board I will continue to update the school website, https://bsd405.org/bhs/
Student's Testing with Accommodations
: In general students with approved common testing accommodations such as extra time or extra breaks will be allotted additional testing test. The College Board has provided detailed information on testing accommodations at this link https://apcoronavirusupdates.collegeboard.org/coordinators/accommodations. The College Board will update the information at this link the week of April 27th to address World Language exams.
Students with approved testing accommodations who are taking the exams will show the exam location as "Bellevue School District" instead of "Bellevue High School". Note, this location has not been updated by the College Board. The students will take these exams at home and NOT at the district offices.
Delivery of Exams:
Students are receiving correspondence from the College Board to the email address students provided on the profile page of their College Board Account. This will be the email address the exam link will be delivered to. Students should be checking this email account to confirm they are receiving correspondence from the College Board. If they are not receiving information from the College Board students should check clutter etc... and/or change the email address in the profile section of their College Board account. If students have questions on how to update the email address contact me and I can assist, [email protected] In late April the College Board will be sending students and teachers with additional information on how to access the testing system on test day. This will include video demonstrations so families can familiarize themselves with the system. Be sure to watch for this correspondence.
Exam Refunds
: The College Board has requested AP Coordinators to take no action to cancel exams. Exam refunds (full amount that was paid by the student) will be processed after all make up exams - mid June.
What is the Required Action then to initiate a refund? All students who have registered and made payments for exams will receive an exam link. If students do not open the exam link for 1. the Regular Exam AND 2. the Make-up exam, they will be eligible for an exam refund. If students open either exam link this will be considered "taking the exam" and they will not be eligible for an exam refund. I've been informing students requesting exam refunds to ignore the exam link - do not open the exam link on either date.
Feel free to contact me with questions I may have missed.
Thanks!!!

JOIN YOUR NEIGHBORS TO HELP US MEET THE NEEDS OF OUR COMMUNITY
Donations have been used to:
- Buy $40,000 of food vouchers for 3,500 needy children
- Provide funding for mental health counselors to reach students suffering from the challenges of isolation and distance learning
- Fund on-line educational platforms so all students can continue their classroom work
- Provide $10,000 to support District staff assisting first responders, healthcare workers, and frontline Covid-19 fighters
- Continue to fund the exemplary programs that ensure our students' academic excellence once they return to the classroom
When our Spring for Schools luncheon was canceled due to COVID-19, we knew it would be difficult to realize our $875,000 goal. The good news is that generous donors have already contributed $579,000.
Our challenge is to continue raising additional funds to meet the critical needs of our students.

Update on Student Mask Project
Hello families of Bellevue High School!
As some of you may know, I have been trying to make protective gear and donate it to the medical staff that fight the COVID-19 virus on the front line. I asked the community of Bellevue High to help me in my efforts, and we were able to make 132 face shields and 72 face masks! Thank you to everyone that participated and helped donate the protective gear! Down below is some pictures of the donations I received and have provided to the UW Medical Center. Thank you!

SENIOR SHOUT OUTS
Girls Track and Field
Jacy Watson
Jacy is an athlete who is very responsible, dependable and humble. She works hard to accomplish her goals and helps her fellow athlete's do the same. She may not be the loudest individual on the team, but her presence is felt. Once, when she wasn't at practice, her teammates were extremely vocal to ensure Jacy was listed as one of the athletes for an invitational, giving up some of their own opportunities to compete. Jacy has not only earned the respect of her peers, she has also reminded me that you don't need to have the stronger or the fastest individual to be a team. You just need a group of strong individuals that believe in each other and look out for each other. Everyone plays a role: Jacy was the glue. I know miss Watson has an astonishing future ahead of her.(From coach Katy: Jacy Watson: I could always count on Jacy to be there for the team and to be willing to go the extra mile. She is the definition of sportsmanship.)
Katie Reid
Katie was one of the students who interviewed me for my coaching position. She is not only smart and a talented athlete, but also a natural leader. This is why I was not surprised to hear that she holds an elected position on ASB. Her peers and I value her opinions. She is a firecracker that will speak her mind and push for what she feel is right. The tremendous talents Katie has ranged so wide on the track that it was hard to decide what events she should do. This young lady would even go above and beyond to help coach high jump so her peers could have the opportunity to experience the event safe and correctly. I can't wait to see what the future has in store for her.
Kaitlyn Greenlaw
I've had the pleasure of coaching Kaitlyn for two sport. Kaitlyn is so nice, soft spoken and extremely determined to do her best. She pushes herself harder than anyone i know. More so, Kaitlyn strives to build community with her teammates. She and her family have opened up there beautiful home to host gatherings for students and coaches. This young lady's determination and team building skills, in addition to her humble spirit, will help project her to achieving any goal she strives to accomplish now and in the future.
Boys Baseball
Trent Gertz
Trent would have been a 3 year letterman this year. He was picked as Captain this year to be the leader of the program. Trent has improved every year in all aspects of his game. He was first team all KingCo last year and would have done it again this year, with the chance being MVP also. I'm excited to know he will be continuing his baseball career next year at Nichols College. Good Luck Trent!
Nick Henning
Nick would have been a 2 year letterman while missing all of last year. Nick was going to have a big role as 1st baseman and pitcher this year. He is a great hitter and would have helped us a lot in the line-up. I'm excited for Nick as he will be continuing his education and baseball career at Knox College. Good luck Nick!
Boys Lacrosse
Zachary Edelhertz
There are few moments that electrify the team quite like Zach getting to the island and ripping:
Top Cheddar, Top Cheese, Top Swiss, Premium Gouda, Top Shelf, whatever you want to call it! He has the ability to squeeze one high past the goalie and bring everyone to their feet. It's incredibly fun to watch. It has also been fun to watch Zach grow into a skilled, disciplined, and extremely respectful young man. Zach, we are so proud of the way you have worked hard each year and always conducted yourself as model Bellevue Lacrosse player. You have many exciting times in front of you and we look forward to cheering you on in your journey ahead!
Go Bellevue!!! Be well....

SPRING SPORTS SENIORS 2020 - IN THEIR OWN WORDS!!
Hello Bellevue High School & BHS Community....in another effort to honor and celebrate our Senior Student Athletes this Spring, we have reached out to ALL of the individual Seniors and their parents who are participating in Athletics. We are asking that if students themselves would like to have a chance to comment on what being a student athlete means to them, any highlights or memories they'd want to share and any people that they'd want to thank have a chance to do so.
Boys Lacrosse - Grey Sunderland
Hello I'm Grey Sunderland. A big part of my life is being an athlete and playing sports. I wouldn't want it any other way. I started first with squash and soccer, then swimming, biking, tennis and martial arts, lacrosse came next, then golf, cross country and skiing and finally wrestling. There isn't a sport I wouldn't try. I've met great friends through athletics and been guided by amazing coaches at Bellevue High School. I've enjoyed teaching sports to younger athletes in the hopes that they become as passionate as I am. Being a Bellevue High School athlete has also allowed me to commit to one of the best business colleges in the country and I am grateful for that reward. I will miss my high school teammates and the brotherhood we shared, and the 2020 lacrosse State Championship that Bellevue would have surely won. I look forward to the next adventure.

SENIORS
Dear Senior Parents,
With much changing amidst the COVID-19 virus, we want to keep you informed of changes regarding graduation events. While we recognize that the logistics of gathering in the traditional ways (prom, baccalaureate, senior breakfast, graduation, grad night) are suspended until deemed safe and approved by the Governor, we remain cautiously optimistic that there may be opportunity to celebrate our Seniors later this summer. This is a great opportunity for creativity, a re-focus on priorities,
and lifelong solidarity amongst the Class of 2020 that will come from weathering this time together. If your home is anything like ours, we vacillate between disappointment and resiliency, often on a daily basis. In those lower moments, we try to look forward to after high school plans and adventures and the promise of better days ahead.
As a parent committee, recognizing and celebrating our children's accomplishments is a top priority. We are regularly discussing and considering alternative options in conjunction with the school and students. Should the current stay at home orders be lifted before the end of the summer and we can plan a safe event that follows state and local guidelines, we are ready to quickly create an opportunity for Seniors to gather, be recognized and say goodbyes. If summer timing is not possible, we will consider alternative dates for a future celebration to take place at some point over the next year. Please encourage your Senior to fill out the post-Town Hall survey as we will use these results to help guide our planning.
The following three statements will anchor our parent-planned summer celebration decision-making, based on state and local guidance:
1. There are no bans on large group gatherings that would limit our ability to gather.
2. The gathering can take place by August 1 to avoid possible conflict with college and university schedules.
3. We determine we can meet a high standard for health and safety.
All three of these statements must be true for a parent-planned summer celebration to proceed. As we move through the planning process, we will keep you updated and provide opportunity to share your ideas. We acknowledge that whatever direction we take, the gathering will look and feel different than in past years and will require flexibility on all our parts. For those who purchased Grad Night tickets, we are working reimbursement options and procedures and there will be more details forthcoming.
In addition, we are actively pursuing ideas for publicly honoring our Seniors before the end of the school year in order to send a message of support but does not tempt them to gather.
Sincerely,
The 2020 Graduation Events Parent Committee
Co-Chairs, Melinda Eley and Leslie Feller
Committee Members: Stephanie Charaf, Leslie Barry, Stephanie Dash, Christine Elmgren, Mary Kim, Natalie Littrell, Heather Serres, Sydney Scoma, Candice Soderquist

JUNIORS
Every year the junior class at BHS has a raffle to raise funds to lower the cost of senior events such as prom and graduation.
Our raffle includes: 4 Night Getaway in a villa at the Westin Los Cabos for 6 guests, Cabo restaurant giftcard, and $750 cash.
Our goal is to raise $30,000 by selling 2,000 raffle tickets for $15 each.
We still need a few more sellers to sell just 25 tickets each to achieve our goal! You may sell tickets to other BHS parents, co-workers, family members, or you may purchase them yourselves. You will have until the drawing on April 23 to sell them. We will provide email templates and marketing materials to help you sell.
We also really need parents to buy tickets! THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR FABULOUS SELLERS BELOW! Please contact one if you would like to purchase.
