SENIOR SPOTLIGHT!

Katherine Lamson - Q & A

Time in orchestra:

Katherine has been playing the violin for 4 1/2 years

Favorite Music:
I enjoy playing either movie soundtracks or pop songs. The movie songs always sound awesome when the whole orchestra is playing together.  The pop music is fun to play since I know the rhythm and it is interesting to see it all come together.

Favorite composer:
Kurt Mosier because he generously helped us improve our playing abilities when we played one of his pieces

Favorite songs played in orchestra:
A Charlie Brown Christmas; Funky and the Bass Cats

What do you like about RHS Orchestra and Why?
I love that being part of the RHS Orchestra really does feel like being part of a team

What has been your most memorable  experience as a part of the RHS Orchestra?
I enjoyed playing at The Fresh Market during holiday time and watching customers happily sing along to our playing

What do you know about music that you wish you knew when you were younger?
I wish I knew how relaxing music was so that I continued it more consistently

What advice do you want to give to younger players - either middle school or HS?
Get involved in gigs and volunteering at other schools - it's worth it!

What do you with you could do better musically than you do now?
I wish I knew how to play with better tone, because I would love to play a piece and have it sound nearly perfect

What is your favorite motto or quote?
Think like a proton, always positive

If you could start your music career over again, what would you change, if anything?
I wish I continued orchestra instead of stopping and starting again, but I am grateful Roswell Orchestra was so welcoming

Where do you want to go to college and will you continue to study music?
The University of Georgia: I will be studying chemistry, but look forward to playing my instrument

Thomas Brunner - Q & A

Time in orchestra:

Thomas has been playing cello, bass and viola for 7 years

Favorite Music:
Jazz, because I like the groove

Favorite composer:
Seth Gamba

Favorite songs played in orchestra:
C-Here

What do you like about RHS Orchestra and Why?
It's awesome having a break in the school day just to play music

What has been your most memorable  experience as a part of the RHS Orchestra?
When Jack and I were 1st and 2nd chair on The Walk 2k19

What do you know about music that you wish you knew when you were younger?
Take time to learn and play the stuff you like to play.  Not only is it fun, but it helps you master your instrument.

What advice do you want to give to younger players - either middle school or HS?
Just have fun with it

What do you with you could do better musically than you do now?
Understand music theory and have a complete understanding of shifting/where notes are on the fingerboard

What is your favorite motto or quote?
Even a fool can seem wise when he knows when to keep his mouth shut

If you could start your music career over again, what would you change, if anything?
Start by learning piano

Where do you want to go to college and will you continue to study music?
University of Georgia to study engineering
