HEALTHY RC UPDATES
Healthy RC Highlights
Youth Leader Tobacco Prevention for Parents, Youth, and Local Decision-Makers
Youth Leaders designed and created impactful public awareness videos showcasing several components of addressing tobacco prevention among parents, youth, and local decision-makers. The City of Rancho Cucamonga was awarded $9,500 to create these videos through the amazing work that the Healthy RC Youth Leaders have done through their vape policy research. These videos were made as part of a partnership with San Bernardino Superintendent of Schools, where they will be used as a multi-media toolkit for school districts across the county. In the Parent Awareness Video, Youth Leaders offer advice for parents, reminding them to show empathy and concern if they find out that their child is using tobacco. Many times, youth are turning to tobacco because of a greater issue related to stress, anxiety, and mental health. Parents can help guide their children through the process of seeking appropriate resources.

In addition, Youth Leader Amoha Bhale also created a stop-motion TikTok video suggesting positive coping skills instead of turning to tobacco and vaping. In another Youth Engagement video, Youth Leaders and Rancho Cucamonga City Manager John Gillison shared how cultivating effective relationships with stakeholders plays a key role in building capacity and skills for youth in creating policy solutions on tobacco prevention. These resources will continue to be shared via social media, the City website, and the school community for the benefit of parents, youth, and school administrators.

MENTAL HEALTH
Healthy RC presents the Healthy Mind and Body Resource Guide
In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month in May, the Healthy RC Mental Health Subcommittee created a virtual series on Healthy Mind and Body during the month of May to respond to the urgent need for tailored resources and support for families facing overwhelming stress.

Residents came together to listen and discuss with presenter Raymond Martinez, Holistic Health and Fitness Coach from Awareness Training, who gave health and wellness strategies on Stress and Emotional Eating, as well as Managing Diet and Lifestyle. His presentations focused on self-awareness, reflective journaling, and creating behavioral changes around food consumption and sleep that optimize your energy and create a sustainable framework for your lifestyle. Jared Valdez, a PhD candidate from Wholistic Health Collaborative, also presented for the Sleep and Mindfulness workshop and provided recommendations for improving sleep hygiene for optimal health.

One attendee shared, “Thank you so much. The resources at tonight’s event were really helpful, especially hearing others who have some of the same issues and being able to share in such a short amount of time.”

For those who missed the series, you can tune in and watch them or view the presentation using the Healthy Mind and Body Resource Guide, which offers cooking recipes, book recommendations, and guided meditations, so you can put all the skills into practice!
