This school year SCIS students will use a school-issued Chromebook and charger.
The expectation is that students will bring their charged Chromebook and charger to school each day.
Students will fill out a Google form acknowledging they have received a working device and are responsible for taking care of their device and charger and bringing it to school each day.
Students will verify the Chromebook is in working order when they receive it. If there is an issue with the device please return the device to the library. A working Chromebook will be re-issued to your student. We assume that the issued device has the following in good condition:
All the keys are present and working on the keyboard.
The screen is clear, no scratches or display issues.
The camera lens is working properly and clearly.
The headphone jack is working properly.
The charging port charges properly.
The charger works properly and is unbent.
The student is responsible for returning the laptop and charger in working order at the end of the year. Damages are the responsibility of the student.
Chromebook costs will vary depending on the damage type.
Common damages:
Cost to repair broken screen: $90.00
Cost to replace lost or broken charger: $59.99
Students will be given just one charger. If the charger is broken/lost, a new charger will be issued once the replacement cost has been paid to the school.
What if my student forgets their Chromebook or charger? There are one-day-use Chromebooks available for students that have forgotten their computer or charger. These must be checked out from the library and returned on the same day.

Hello Sloan Creek Parents! We can not wait to be back on campus this year. The PTO has many efforts to serve and connect with students and staff.
JOIN and DONATE
We would love for you to sign up to be a part of the Sloan Creek PTO. The $8 membership dues go towards programs that benefit each student. Please sign up your students and spouses. Your membership allows you to have access to our online directory and volunteer opportunities.
There is also an opportunity for you to donate to our Leopard Drive. This is different from your donation to Foundation for Lovejoy Schools. Those donations benefit the district as a whole. Our Leopard Drive stays at Sloan Creek to help put on programs like See you at the Creek, Kool off with Kona, teacher appreciation, and many more.
Please click on the link below to become a member and donate.
VOLUNTEER
There are many opportunities to volunteer at Sloan Creek. Please fill out the google form below if you are interested in becoming involved at Sloan Creek.
If you have questions or want to find out more, please join us at our Volunteer Coffee on August 24th from 9-10.

Attendance at Sloan Creek
|
|
Unlike at the elementary level, attendance at Sloan Creek (and all other campuses moving forward) is taken every period. So if a student arrives at 9:30 AM, they are here for the funding time of the day, however, the student would still be counted absent for any periods missed prior to the time of check in. Similarly, if your child is checked out at 10:15 AM, they were also present for the school to receive funding, but they are counted absent for any classes they miss after check out.
Lovejoy ISD designates 10:00 AM as the set time of day that we use to report attendance for daily funding from the state. This is different from attendance being counted for truancy purposes. The common misconception is that if a student is here for the 10:00 AM funding time, their attendance is clear for the day. Texas truancy policy indicates that if a student misses 10 days, or parts of days, within a six-month period, they are deemed truant. Therefore, an absence during any part of the day can count toward the maximum number of allowed absences. Once a student reaches the 10 absence threshold, they may be subject to attendance recovery measures, such as Friday night school and an attendance committee meeting to implement attendance improvement practices.
There are several exceptions when it comes to an absence being counted toward truancy. If the student has a valid note from a doctor, dentist, orthodontist, etc., the absence is coded differently and is exempt from truancy. If a student is ill and the nurse requests that you pick up your student, this also does not count toward truancy. We welcome you to email any medical excuse or parent excuse to Lori_Esser@LovejoyISD.net. If you have emailed a parent or medical excuse, your student does not need to bring a copy to school, unless it is requested.
If you have any specific questions about attendance, you may email Lori_Esser@LovejoyISD.net or call 469-742-8400. Attendance can be complicated, so we are happy to help.
Above all, attendance is a key to student learning, so we hope to see student’s bright, smiling faces in class as much as possible!
