Dear Parents and Guardians of St. Francis of Assisi School,

On February 26, the California Department of Public Health released a statement about possible first transmission of Coronavirus in Solano and Contra Costa Counties.  The same day, the County of Orange declared a local health emergency and cited recent statements by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that the community spread of COVID-19 is likely to occur in the United States. The County took this action to enhance its preparations in the event of an outbreak.  To date there has only been one confirmed case in Orange County and that individual has recovered. According to the CDC, the immediate health risk from COVID-19 is still considered low for members of the general public who have not been exposed to this virus.  There have been no cases associated with person to person transmission in Orange County that have been identified at this time.  The safety of you and your families is something we take very seriously.  We are continually monitoring developments with the virus in close collaboration with the Diocese of Orange.

School Preparations
We have honored health and safety protocols for our students attending school.  If any student has thrown up at school, they are sent home right away and asked to remain home for a minimum of 24 hours with no vomiting.  Students who have a fever are sent home right away.  They are to remain home for a minimum of 24 hours fever free before returning to school.  Any student with green mucus, either draining from their nose or coughing up is sent home and asked to bring a doctor's note before returning.

We wipe down the health room and classrooms with antibacterial products in addition to the cleaning which occurs nightly from our contracted cleaning crew.  Antibacterial soap is available for student use both in the classroom and in the student restrooms.  Everyone is asked to wash their hands before leaving the restroom.

Personal Preparations
The CDC recommends that we all help respond to this public health threat by taking simple, everyday precautions such as:
  • DO NOT COME TO SCHOOL IF YOU ARE SICK OR SYMPTOMATIC. SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION IF YOUR SYMPTOMS WORSEN.
  • Avoid close contact with sick people.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. After using a tissue, throw it in the trash and wash your hands.
Thank you for your partnership in keeping our students healthy.  Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Blessings,
Jeannette Lambert
