Week of December 7th - 11th.

Our priority is to follow the COVID rules and protocols, so thank you to all parents and players for doing their best!

This upcoming week is the last week of the this session and we will be starting our Winter Session the week of January 4th. Registration is open so go in to register to guarantee a spot.

We are planning to run a tennis camp during the Holiday, as well as tournaments if this is something that applies, so stay tuned for a message regarding this from your head coach with further details.

As usual, if you have any questions or concerns please contact me.

PROGRESSIVE 1 AND 2
From Head Coach Anna Momot
amomot@acetennis.ca

PROGRESSIVE 1
This week the little players had an opportunity to do many repetitions of "forehand" and "backhand." They did a good job and worked hard. We also connected the serve and
rally. The kids served and played random balls, thus they had to be ready to play from both sides - forehand and backhand. This will prepare them for future rallies with each other.

PROGRESSIVE 2
We still worked on keeping score. They rotate during practice and had an opportunity to play against each other, having a lot of fun keeping score and competing! We also spent time on the serve, with full motion, something that requires a lot of coordination skills.
Keep in mind that next week is the last week of this session so don't forget to register for the next session beginning the week of January 4, 2021!
PROGRESSIVE 2 - Competitive
From Head Coach Mike Donski
mikedonski@acetennis.ca

Another good, but tough, week of training for the Progressive 2 players. We did lots of volume on the themes of consistency, being aggressive from the middle and finishing the point at the net.
Players are better able to understand how to build their points and look for opportunities to be aggressive. As long as the focus level and engagement is there, the majority are able to apply these concepts in point situations. Next week is the final week of programs, we will be playing lots of points and game situations. Please remember to register for next session!
PROGRESSIVE 3
From Head Coach Mihai Mocanu
mihai@acetennis.ca

This week we worked mostly on volleys and overheads, more complex serve motion and we also played games where players would win more points if they finished with a volley or an overhead. Players were encouraged to be more aggressive with their game!
COMPETITIVE ACES
From Head Tom Pociecha
tom@acetennis.ca

This week we were back to cross-court rallies during our warm up drills. We emphasized the athletic look along with the need to be consistent and recover to the appropriate location.
During the "drilling" portion of the practice we worked on improving the following:
a) Return of serve and playing the appropriate second shot (emphasizing the appropriate recovery after both shots)
b) Serving wide and then hitting the next ball in the "open" court (emphasizing the appropriate recovery after both shots)
I am enjoying the "full court" points towards the end of practice. As the group we are becoming more creative which allows the players to use their strengths within the context of our core strategies (consistency, hitting away from the opponent and "finishing" the point at the net).
HIGH SCHOOL TEAM
From Head Coach Jay Barlow
jay@acetennis.ca

The group continued to work on movement and set up this week. There was a strong emphasis on finishing the swing with good body rotation. Maintaining this during point play can be a challenge as the fear of missing can often cause players to slow down their swing. Next week is our last before the winter break, if you are interested in the next session please register online ASAP as space is limited.
